Free youth ultimate frisbee clinic to be held Saturday

If you’re looking for a way for your kid to enjoy the spring weather this weekend, learning a new sport could offer such a chance.

The second annual Lawrence Youth Ultimate Spring Clinic will be Saturday. The clinic is open to kids ages 8 to 18, and is hosted by the Kansas University men’s and women’s ultimate frisbee teams

The clinic is free and open to the public, but participants are required to register and complete a waiver form. Participants will be broken into several age groups.

The clinic will be from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at KU’s Shenk Fields at 23rd and Iowa streets. Registration can be done online, where the waiver form is also available for download.


In other news and notes today:

  • Third-graders at Broken Arrow Elementary will perform their music program from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • New York Elementary will hold its BOGO Book Fair from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Kindergarten and first-graders will perform their music program at 6:15 p.m. and second- and third-graders at 6:45 p.m.

  • The Prairie Park Elementary chess club will meet at 3:10 p.m.

  • Quail Run Elementary track club meets at 8 a.m. The chess club will meet at 3:50 p.m.

  • The Schwegler Elementary site council will meet at 5:30 p.m. The PTA meets at 6:30 p.m.

  • Fourth- and fifth-graders at Sunset Hill Elementary will perform their music program at 6 p.m.

Middle school level

Sides: roasted broccoli, strawberries, salad bar, fruit juice, fresh fruit, milk

High school level

Main dish: macaroni and cheese; pasta food bar; pizza; cereal with string cheese; parfait with muffin; peanut butter and jelly with string cheese; chef salad with breadstick; daily sandwiches

Sides: roasted broccoli, marinated mushroom salad, strawberries, fruit sorbet, fruit juice, oven potatoes, salad bar, fresh fruit, milk
