Finally someone realizes that treatment is needed rather than jail. Hopefully there are resources available to support him in his efforts to stay sober, because he will need a lot of support. If you haven't experienced it, you can't know how difficult it is.

How many of those "low risk" inmates who are farmed out probably should not be in jail in the first place? I would like to look at reallocating some of those funds that are spent on re-entry to help people stay out of jail in the first place.

This just makes me sick!!! Another case of someone with mental illness slipping through the cracks and now his life is ruined. Just compounds the tragedy.

I agree that they need to do prison time, but I fail to understand how that will break the cycle. They will come out (if they do), better criminals.

Society has failed these young men, but also their parents and generations before. Every single person has the responsibility to do something to keep kids like this from being "written off" at a young age.

What should happen is that every landlord should set aside one apartment out of every 10 to be either transitional housing for homeless or greatly reduced rent with subsidies. That would go a long way to eliminate the problem. Still need to figure out support for poor rental history and credit checks that are roadblocks to many people.

It's all about the guns!!! I know people are going to say that it's not the gun, it's the person, but back in the day when guns weren't so prolific, these same people with having fistfights instead of shooting. I will never be convinced otherwise.
