I agree completely. But having had what I am sure were death threats against both my canine companion and myself by someone displaying a Confederate flag in his window, I fear that, in our current political and social environment, burning such a flag could get one killed. I still can't believe it ... even though I heard the threats with my own ears (and recorded the threat against me).

Bravo, Lawrence!! We are a civil community and I appreciate that tremendously.

I'm a KU retiree (and alum) with, as they say, "no skin in this game." But what I've read and heard makes me hopeful he's a very good choice. I'll leave it at that.

This is a sad story in every way. I guess I can say I'm glad Carrots is no longer suffering, but I'm sad beyond words for the students who have lost an animal friend in that way. It can't have been easy for them or Ms. Saxton.

Speaking only for myself, I'm very disappointed in my alma mater for doing this ... however wonderful that money might seem. KU seems so capable of being better than that.

I just hope for him (Brownback) to be gone asap, with the least possible damage between now and then, and for Trump to never have the same chance to inflict this catastrophic damage on the entire nation while whispering his mantra ad nauseum ... "This is good. It will work. This is good. It will ..."

I've given up on anyone trying to convince either Brownback or Trump of anything. Both have their own inner voices that they listen to. In addition to whatever those voices are telling them, they've apparently also been convinced by either the voices or others to disregard any and all facts and evidence that contradict the voices. Our only hope is for the state to wait out Brownback's final term to completely change his policies and for the country to not give Trump his first term at the nation's helm in the first place.

Oh great, now we're shooting for the "least worst"!! How about a simple, "No. Try again ... with a significantly better proposal than *least* *worst*."

Lawrencians should cease and desist using Maceli's catering. *That* Mr. Macelli is, it appears and as far as I'm concerned, acting too much like a certain major-party presidential candidate.
