Question

Sound Off: Ninth and Tennessee intersection

Answer

What’s with the right-turn arrow at the intersection of Ninth and Tennessee streets? I’ve seen cars turn right when the turn arrow is red. Is this legal? If not, why is making a right turn on a red light illegal at this and only this intersection?

The new traffic signals provide a separate traffic signal head for the right-turn lane consisting of all arrows; Kansas state law permits a right turn on a red arrow after stopping and yielding the right-of-way to other vehicles and pedestrians lawfully using the intersection.
