Question

Sound Off: Is it permissible to own a pool — either above ground or in ground — in the Old West Lawrence neighborhood?

Answer

Megan Gilliland, the city’s communications manager, said that the city code doesn’t prevent pools in any particular neighborhood, as long as the landowner gets a city building permit and follows city regulations on setbacks and fencing. Getting a pool permit for a house in Old West Lawrence does require a historic resources review, however, and there may be a restrictive covenant in the neighborhood’s code. If so, she said, a dispute would be a civil matter.

Say what? About Hugh Carter's desire to bring in rich, retired folk? Surely no one expects them to do without their lap pool.....not even Old West Lawrence.......

The sad part is that this could have been set off by a Mrs. Kravitz-like neighbor who noticed a little kid's plastic pool in the front yard.
