What criteria must be met for a child to not need a booster seat in a vehicle and can wear a regular seat belt?

According to Kansas law, children ages 4 to 7 years old are required to ride in a booster seat unless the child weighs more than 80 pounds, or the child is taller than 4 feet 9 inches, or if only a lap belt is available in the vehicle. Children who don’t meet those criteria or are ages 8 to 13 must be protected by a seat belt.
