Question

I called my optometrist to get a copy of my prescription, but the office told me they couldn’t give it to me because I hadn’t been in for an exam for more than a year. Is that true?

Answer

According to a representative from the Kansas Board of Examiners in Optometry, optometrists cannot give prescriptions for contact lenses if there hasn’t been an exam in over a year. For glasses, however, whether to provide prescription details is up to the optometrist’s discretion.
