Question

I heard some of the city commissioners were making a trip to Japan, perhaps to one of our sister cities? Who's paying for it, the city or the sister city? How are those things handled?

Answer

Megan Gilliland, communications manager for the city, said the Sister Cities Advisory Board is coordinating a visit for a delegation of local residents to visit Lawrence’s sister city Hiratsuka, Japan, this fall to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the sister city relationship. City Commissioner Michael Dever will be representing the city. Dever is personally paying for costs associated with transportation for this visit. Host families and the host committee in Hiratsuka will provide lodging and meals for the entire delegation for a portion of the visit.

A follow-up question, is the city spending any money on this trip?
