Question

This afternoon I saw two people going down my sidewalk with a garbage bag and clippers. They were trimming tree branches which they thought seemed too low. Is it legal to trim someone’s else’s trees?

Answer

According to Jim Beebe, forestry supervisor, it is not legal for someone to prune trees in the right of way of a property they do not own. If a person has a concern about low-hanging limbs in the right of way, they should contact the Forestry Division at 832-7979 to have a city crew dispatched and review the limbs in question.
