Is the compost at the city’s compost sale (Thursday through Saturday) safe for growing food in a garden?


According to Megan Gilliland, city communications director, 99 percent of all chemicals “have dissipated prior to public distribution” of the compost, which comes from weekly curbside collection of residential yard trimmings. Gilliland also said that the city “tests the compost for levels of ammonia and carbon dioxide to determine compost maturity and tests for levels of Clopyralid (herbicide) to ensure all levels are below EPA regulations. Tests are also completed for pH and salinity.”
