sunnyFair and Breezy, 52.0°

Question

The dew point doesn’t seem to get enough attention. It’s a true indicator of comfort. Is there a record high? If so, what date? Lately, we’ve had 79 or higher.

Answer

Matt Elwell, 6News chief meteorologist, provides this answer:
Lawrence records for dew point don’t go back extremely far, but we have a record high dew point of 82.4 degrees on five occasions going back to midnight on June 28, 1998. We also had that dew point reading at:
• 1 a.m. July 21, 2003.
• 11 p.m. July 11, 2007.
• Midnight July 11, 2007.
• 1 a.m. July 12, 2007.
It is common for the highest dew point readings to come in the middle of the night because the temperature is dropping and the low-level atmospheric mixing is at a minimum.
