The Lawrence school district bought 76 acres southeast of Lawrence. What did the district pay for that?
In October 2009, board members approved a $1.73 million purchase of the farm and pasture ground near the intersection of East 1750 and North 1300 roads. District leaders have said the land can be used for a school site or potential outdoor campus and wellness center in partnership with the city and other community groups, such as Outside for a Better Inside.
Money for the purchase came out of the district’s capital outlay fund, which by state law can’t be used for teacher salaries or other operational expenses.
