How much did the three new city sales taxes approved by voters in November 2008 generate in 2009? Did they generate as much as city officials said they would?
The 0.3 percent sales tax for streets and infrastructure generated $2,389,133. In campaign literature prior to its approval, city officials estimated it would generate $2,255,900.
The 0.2 percent sales tax for public transportation generated $1,592,756. The city had projected $1,504,000.
The 0.05 percent sales tax for public transit equipment and enhancements generated $398,189. Projections were for $376,000.
Although all three sales taxes were approved in November 2008, none took effect until April 1, so full year totals for 2010 are expected to be higher.
