I’ve heard it’s possible to donate unused prescription drugs to Third World countries. How would I do it and whom would I call?


Several local pharmacists said they were unaware of any such programs due to safety issues. “There’s no way to tell whether somebody’s tampered with it,” said Debra Billingsley, executive secretary of the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy. “There’s no way of knowing if the medications have been stored at the correct temperature or mixed with other medications that someone may have an allergy to.”
There is an organization called Heart to Heart International in Olathe that sends medical supplies around the world to people in need, but Pete Brumbaugh, a spokesman for the charity said the organization only accepts donations directly from pharmaceutical companies or the drug manufacturers.
