Question

I live south of Interstate 70 in a housing community. I’ve tried two new weather radios in different parts of the home, but only receive static noises. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Answer

Reception is subject to terrain and elevation, but weather radios should almost always be able to pick up the transmitter in Topeka or Pleasant Hill, Mo., which covers the Kansas City area, said Bob Newton, the duty officer with Douglas County Emergency Management. It’s possible that you might need to set up an outside antenna. There is an antenna jack on the back of the radios for that. But before going to that trouble, take the radio to a friend’s house and try it at another location to see whether it works.
