Jason Coppedge

Jason Andrew Coppedge passed away in Silver Springs, MD on Thursday, November 2, 2017. A Celebration of life for Jason will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in Centerview Event Center, 227 Municipal Circle, Raymore, MO, Saturday, November 11, 2017. A visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the City of Eudora Fire Department in Eudora, KS. Jason was born February 6, 1979, in Lawrence, KS, the son of Michael and Mary Coppedge. He graduated from Eudora High School in Eudora, KS, Class of 1997. He was united in marriage to Shana Sibert on June 2, 2001. He was sworn in with the City of Raymore, MO, South Metro Fire Protection District in September of 2004. He helped with the delivery of his daughter Piper Madison on Jan 21, 2005 and again with his son Weston Merrick on June 28, 2007. As a kid, Jason joined the cub scouts and learned to camp, appreciate comradery, and the importance of public service. He enjoyed many family camping trips, especially to the Ozarks. He even took tap dance lessons. Jason was enthusiastically involved in many high school activities such as football, wrestling and band. He continued to participate in the Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout in May of 1997. He began volunteering as a fireman in the Eudora, KS area as part of a Boy Scout Fire Service Project. He even researched fire service for a High School English assignment. This is when his love for fire service began. Jason met Shana in April of 1998 and dated for 3 years before marriage. They lived in Kansas City for the early years of their marriage and finally settled in Harrisonville, Mo in April of 2007. Jason carried many traditions from his childhood on with his own family. He enjoyed scouting with both Piper and Weston. He was extremely involved with scouting in both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was the leader of his daughter's troop for the last 7 years and served in multiple roles in his son's Cub Scout pack. He was a leader, mentor, and friend to every child he met. He loved camping and having adventures with his family. He was also an avid Chiefs and KU fan. Jason began his career with South Metro Fire in 2004 as a Firefighter/EMT, member of the Honor Guard and was later promoted to rank of Engineer. He was known for his passion and dedication. His legacy will forever serve as an example of the term brotherhood within the fire service. Jason is survived by his wife Shana, daughter Piper, son Weston, parents Mike and Mary Coppedge, siblings: Mickie (Howard) Gillispie, Kathy (Dan) McClintock and Tammy Gavillet, Mother in Law PJ Berkey, in laws: Erick (Kim) Sibert, Tiffany (Barry) Shepherd, nieces and nephews: Maria, Nick, Karlee, Tyler, Alexis, Riley, Carter, Cheyanna, Andrew, and David, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and an entire Fraternal Order of Fire Fighters. Jason was a happy and hardworking young man. His life experiences modeled him into a music lover, great dancer, and a service minded professional. He demonstrated a great love for Shana, Piper, and Weston daily. His passion for his family and profession was admired by everyone that knew him.
