Jackalopes & Other Tricksters: A Winter’s Night Reading with Denise Low and Kij Johnson

On Thursday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m., the Raven Book
Store will host Jackalopes & Other Tricksters: A Winter’s Night Reading.

Denise Low, 2007-09 Kansas Poet Laureate, launches a new book, *Jackalope*
(Santa Fe: Red Mountain Press), her first collection of short fiction.
Low’s fiction has been published in *New Letters*, *Yellow Medicine Review*,
*Cream City Review*, *Caprice*, *Chiron Review*, *Kansas City Star*, and
*Transmotion*, and has earned two Pushcart Prize nominations. Low, author
of 25 books, is past board president of AWP. She blogs, reviews, and
co-publishes Mammoth Publications. Her professional workshops have national
reach, and she teaches at Baker University and for the Transformative
Language Arts Network. She has an MFA and PhD.

Kij Johnson, award-winning writer and KU professor, is author of “The
Evolution of Trickster Stories among the Dogs of North Park after the
Change,” which appears in the anthologies *The Coyote Road: Trickster Tales*
and *The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror: 21st Annual Collection*. The story
was on the Final ballot, 2007: World Fantasy awards and Nebula awards; and
Nominee, 2007: Hugo awards and Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award. She is an
associate director for the Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the
University of Kansas and serves as a final judge for the Theodore Sturgeon
Memorial Award. Johnson is the author of three novels and more than 50
short works of fiction.
