Community Village Lawrence, a local organization whose mission is to help neighbors age in their own homes, would like to announce their first annual spring fundraiser, A Trip Down Memory Lane: 1969 Orange Bowl Revival. The fundraiser will take place on Sunday, March 2nd from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crown Toyota Showroom, 3430 Iowa Street. Special guest Bobby Douglass and emcee Jeremy Taylor will lead attendees in a colorful afternoon of hors d'oeuvres, silent and live auctions, KA Mimms Photography and event photo booth, exciting premiums, and live entertainment. Tickets are $10 per person or $15 for a couple and include a photo in the event booth, hors d’oeurvres, and an auction bid card. Donations accepted for drinks. Donations to CVL are tax-deductible under the fiscal sponsorship of Douglas County Community Foundation.
Bobby Douglass is the former University of Kansas football star who led the Jayhawks to a 9–2 record, a share of the Big Eight Conference title and a spot in the 1969 Orange Bowl. He was an All American in 1968 and played in the NFL after playing for the Jayhawks.
Community Village is launching free sample services in March including Telephone Reassurance, Home Safety, and Fire Safety Programs. Telephone Reassurance Volunteers will make regularly scheduled phone calls to residents who are living alone to reassure them and their families that all is well. CVL will launch a full program of vetted volunteer services, referrals to vetted service providers, and member social and educational programs in summer 2014. This fundraiser will provide the final funds to hire an executive director, vet volunteers, and other projects to support this launch. We hope to see you at the event!
