Randy and Sue (Hagen) Lewis are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on September 2, 1967 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, Kansas. Both are graduates of Lawrence High School ('65) and Pittsburg State University. Randy is retired from Kansas Farm Bureau and Sue is retired from the Lawrence School District. They have two children: Jenny King (Steve) from Nixa MO and Mike Lewis (Kristel) from Lawrence. They also have six terrific grandchildren: Katie, Kevin and Kyle King and Macade, Luke and Kate Lewis. The whole family celebrated in June with a cruise to Mexico.
Richard and Barbara Nelson will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Friday, September 1st. They were married in Salina, Kansas and have lived in Lawrence the past 40 years. Their children are Jeff Nelson, Jay Dee Nelson and Jody Miller. They have six grandchildren, Kelsey, Kinsey, Kaylin, Taite, Caleb and Logan. There will be a family dinner on the 16th of September to celebrate this wonderful occasion.
Ken and Barbara Millar Bishop celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 7. They were married in 1957 in LaGrange, IL having begun dating 61/ 2 years earlier in their junior year at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange. They lived in West Lafayette, IN while Ken completed his undergraduate degree and began his graduate work at Purdue, then lived in Anniston, AL where he served 6 months in the Army as partial ROTC fulfillment. Next they moved to Norman, OK followed by St. Louis, MO as he completed his Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma toward the end of which he was an Acting Assistant Professor at Washington University. In 1965 they moved to Lawrence, KS along with their new daughter (and future Jayhawk) Susie. Ken is an Emeritus Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering retiring after 39 years at KU. They are GrampKen and GramBarb to four grandchildren: Kaitlin, Keegan, Logan and Liam McKinney, the children of Susie and Scott McKinney (all of Lawrence). Barbara says "These 60 years have been a privilege and our lives have been blessed."
Larrie and Brilla Scott, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 23, 2017. Charles "Larrie" Scott and Brilla Ann Highfill were married in 1957 at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, Kansas, while both were students at Southwestern College, Winfield. The Scotts were teachers at Winfield High School before moving to Lawrence in 1966 with their fouryearold son, Eric. Larrie taught auto mechanics and coordinated the driver education program at Lawrence High School for 32 years. Following his retirement, he drove the courtesy van for Dale Willey Automotive for 12 years. Brilla was a teacher at West Junior High School and Lawrence High School, principal of West Junior High, and retired as state executive director for United School Administrators of Kansas. She completed her career as state executive director for the Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel. The Scott family celebrated with a dinner at J. Wilson's in Lawrence on August 19. Family members attending were their daughterinlaw, Diane Cole Scott, Lawrence, and their four grandchildren: Faryle Scott, Overland Park; Colter Scott, Lawrence; Calihan Scott, Tonganoxie; and Brogan Scott, Lawrence. Larrie and Brilla's son, Eric, died in December 2016. Siblings who attended included: Carra Scott Gillespie, Wichita; Ken (Kay) Highfill, Lawrence; Jerry (Betty) Highfill, Cary, North Carolina; and Trudy Highfill Shirley, Lawrence.
