Couples announcements for December 2016



Anderson and Amesbury

Karen Anderson Troutman and Scott Anderson of Lawrence are delighted to an­nounce the engagement of their son, Taylor Scott Anderson, to Elena Amesbury. Elena is the daughter of Dr. Spencer Amesbury and Linda Goddard who reside in Ipswich, MA. Taylor, a 2003 graduate of Free State High School, graduated from Lawrence Uni­versity in 2007 with a degree in English. Elena graduated from Lawrence University in 2009 with a degree in Studio Art. Taylor and Elena live in Chicago, IL. and are planning a summer wedding.



Jim and Genevieve Guy, Eudora will cel­ebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house reception hosted by their children at the Eudora United Meth­odist Church, Sunday December 4, 2016 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Friends and family members are invited. They were married December 8, 1951, in Columbus, KS. They moved to Colorado before making Eudora their home in 1954. The couple have four children, Alvie Guy (Reta), Anthony, KS; three daughters, Charlene Conner, (Ronald), Omaha, NE; Lisa Stoltenow, (Scott), Eudora; and Teresa Rosenthal (Michael), Overland Park. They have 11 grand­ children, 19 great­ grandchildren and two great­-great grandchildren. No gifts, please.



Jerry & Sadie Deaton to celebrate their 60th anniversary with a dinner gathering December 10 hosted by daughter, Misty Deaton. Their anniversary is December 14 and plan to travel some in late spring or early June of 2017. Jerry still has his hand at Kennedy Glass (over 40 yrs.) but just part time or when needed. Sadie retired from Westar (KPL) 26 yrs and also from USD497. She spends a lot of time in her yard taking care of her flowers and can be found playing a lot of bridge.


Arnett and Karlin

Mr. and Mrs. Greg Arnett of Solomon, Kansas are pleased to announce the engage­ment of their daughter, Victoria Arnett, to Aaron Karlin, son of Gary and Pam Karlin of Baldwin City, Kansas. Victoria is a graduate of the University of Cent­ral Missouri where she received a degree in Economics and works for Great Plains Manu­facturing, Inc. Aaron received a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas and works for Pfizer. A January wed­ding is planned.


Zeller and Robertson

Bethany Zeller and Cory Roberson, both of Lawrence, KS were united in marriage on November 29th, 2015. Shawn Wheat, a dear friend and the one who initiated the couples first meeting via a local radio station, officiated the ceremony at Maceli's in Lawrence. Their evening recep­tion immediately fol­ lowed with close family and friends attending. Bethany is the daughter of Ronald and Rebecca Zeller of Lawrence. Cory is the son of Howard and Kathleen Clark of Lawrence, and Donald and Melissa Roberson of Wichita. Grandpar­ ents in attendance were Georgia Martin of Win­ field, Chuck and Donna Lockwood of Wichita, and Collin and Queen Shorter of Lawrence. On November 12th, 2016 a "Destination Re­ception" was held in their honor at The An­napolis Waterfront Hotel, MD, with exten­ded family and friends. Their newly born son, Killian Martin­Hayes Roberson, brought great joy to their celeb­ration of love. The Bride, a 2008 graduate of Free State High School, received a Certificate in Massage Therapy in 2010 from Pinnacle Career Insti­ tute, attended Kansas University and then began a career with Truity Credit Union in Lawrence. The Groom, after graduating Lawrence High School in 2008, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served 2 tours of duty in Afghanistan. He is a student at John­ son County Com­munity College with interests in Agriculture. He is employed as a Emergency Communic­ations Specialist with the Kansas University Public Safety Office. The Newlyweds, along with their son, happily reside in Lawrence.



Ralph & Mary Reschke will celebrate with a family reception December 31, 2016. Hosted by Ralph Reschke Jr, Christine Fritzel, Gary & Cindy Aldridge, Tom Reschke families. Ralph & Mary are enjoying retirement from Hallmark travel­ ing and with family gatherings. Love Lawrence, lived here all 60 years!!


Oberzan and Byrne

Lauren Oberzan and Devin Byrne, both of Lawrence, were mar­ried on October 15, 2016 at St. John the Evangel­ ist Catholic Church in Lawrence, Kansas, with Father Barnabas Eichor officiating. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds celebrated with family and friends at their reception at the Arterra Event Gallery. Lauren is the daughter of John Oberzan and Karen Oberzan, both of Lawrence, Kansas. Devin is the son of Jay and Peggy Byrne of Leavenworth, Kansas. Grandparents in attendance were Jim and Marion Byrne of Naples, Flordia. Maid of Honor was Kaylee Oberzan, sister of the bride. Best Man was James Byrne, brother of the groom. Bridesmaids were Lauren Chaney, Morgan Norwood, Banaka Ok­wuone, and Michelle Smith. Groomsmen were Brock Bulmer, Lu­ cas Krug, Tyler Pence, and Jason Snell. Flower Girl was Ruby Oberzan, niece of the bride, and Ring Bearer was Yate Oberzan, nephew of the bride. The bride is a 2006 graduate of Lawrence Free State High School, and received her Bach­elor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Kansas in 2010. She graduated magna cum laude from Michigan State Uni­versity College of Law in 2014, and is em­ ployed as an Associate with Barber Emerson law firm in Lawrence, Kansas. The groom is a 2006 graduate of Im­maculata High School, and received a Bachel­ or’s degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Kan­sas in 2011. He is em­ ployed as an Analyst at the Sprint headquarters in Overland Park, Kan­sas. The couple reside in Lawrence, Kansas



Donna and Charles Decedue were mar­ried in New Orleans on December 27, 1966. The couple met while attending the University of New Orleans. They went on to Louisiana State University where Charles earned a PhD in Microbiology and Donna completed a Master's in Library Science. After a short stint with Duke Uni­versity, the couple moved to Lawrence with their children, Laura and Chris, in August of 1976. Charles worked for the University of Kansas, first as a laboratory adminis­trator at Malott Hall, then the Executive Director of the Higu­ chi Biosciences Center. After retiring from KU, Charles was Senior Research Fellow at Crititech until his full retire­ment in June of 2014. He now enjoys vo­lunteering for Audio Reader and occasion­ ally taking a turn on­ stage or behind the scenes at Theatre Lawrence. Donna was the Lib­ rary­Media Specialist at Hillcrest Element­ary. In retirement, she has volunteered for K­State's Master Gardener Program and is currently act­ive with LINC Kit­chen and Audio Reader. The couple will be celebrating with a trip to St. John's American Virgin Is­ lands.
