Sprague-Brunk and Grady
Gary Brunk and Joey Sprague are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Sprague-Brunk to Mark Grady, the son of Lowell Grady, Homosassa, FL, and Jaren Gillis-Mey, Lenexa, KS. Amanda graduated from the University of Kansas in 2011 and is a Child Protection Specialist with the Kansas Department for Children and Families. Mark graduated from Kansas State University in 2011 and is a Technical Representative with Quest Diagnostics. The couple will be married on May 22, at Stony Point Hall.
Bussinger and Nowak
Larry and Veronica Bussinger of Lawrence announce the engagement of their son, Taylor Bussinger, to Jill Nowak, daughter of Brett and Debbie Nowak of McPherson, KS. Taylor and Jill are both graduates of the University of Kansas and are currently employed as teachers at Prairie Trail Middle School in Olathe, KS. Taylor is an 8th grade History teacher and Jill is a 6th grade math teacher. The wedding will be in June at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Taylor and Jill will reside in Lenexa, KS, after the wedding.
Jerry "Mike" and Shirley (Absher) Cormack will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a card shower and family dinner hosted by their children. They were married April 8, 1956 in Topeka. Mike was a teacher at Whitson School in Topeka and Central Jr. High in Lawrence. He was an elementary Principal at Rossville, KS and at East Heights and Kennedy schools in Lawrence, retiring in 1995. Shirley was a Secretary for various organizations, retiring from Southwestern Bell in 1991 and KU in 1999. The Cormacks enjoyed several years acting with the Lawrence Community Theater, Baker Playmen, Helen Hocker Theater in Topeka and other venues. Their three sons are Michael, Lawrence, Jonathan (Janie), Knoxville, TN, and Tim, Lawrence. They have five grandchildren, Emma and Anna, Lawrence and Jordan, Rachel and Rebekah, Knoxville. Hackney and Hudson
Ms. Holly Christine Hudson and Mr. Jarod Nolan Hackney were married on Monday, April 4th, 2016 at five o'clock in the evening in Lawrence, Kansas. The bride is the daughter of Mr. Chris Hudson of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. Tina Myers of Haysville. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hackney of Haysville. The Bridesmaid included Miss June and Olive Hackney, daughters of the bride and groom. Mr. Duffy Hackney, son of the bride and groom, served as Best Man. Ms. Angie Proffitt of Park City, sister of the bride, served as Maid of Honor. Both are 2001 graduates of Campus High School in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and now works for the Lawrence School District. He studied Studio Arts at Wichita State University and has been a Kansas Certified Tattoo Artist since 2008 working at Skin Illustrations
Queen and Wilson
Leslie Ann Queen and Benjamin Mark Wilson, both of Lawrence, KS, were married on September 5, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Pastor Donald Miller officiated. The bride is the daughter of Lee and Lori Queen, Lawrence, KS. The groom is the son of Mark and Amy Wilson, Lawrence, KS. The Maid of Honor was Libby Queen, sister of the bride and the Best Man was Matthew Green, friend of the groom. Bridesmaids were Megan Butts, Kristy Gerard, Kensley Wilson, and Olivia Dykes. Groomsmen were Ryan Hobbs, Tyler Hatesohl, Ryan Giblin, Austin Bussing, and Dorian Green. Lanie Killian was the Flower Girl and Cash Killian was the Ring Bearer, both are cousins of the groom. The bride is a 2010 graduate of Lawrence High School and received her Bachelors of Science Education in Community Health from the University of Kansas in 2014. Leslie is employed by KC Healthy Kids as the Policy Assistant. The groom is a 2009 graduate of Lawrence High School and received his Bachelors of Science Education in Sport Management from the University of Kansas in 2013, as well as his Masters of Sport Management in 2014. Ben is employed by University of Kansas Athletics as the Director of Student Athlete Development. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds celebrated with family and friends at their reception at Abe and Jake’s Landing in Lawrence. The couple honeymooned in Lake Tahoe, California and reside in Lawrence, KS.
Donald and Jo Dalquest are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. There will be an Open House Reception at the American Legion 3408 W. 6th in Lawrence, KS this Sunday April 17, from 1:00¬4:00 in the afternoon. We invite family, friends and well wishers, to attend. Don and Jo (Carey) were married March 5, 1966 in Novato, CA. They made their careers and raised their daughters in Lawrence, KS. Don served on the Lawrence Police Department for more than 23 years. He then served Douglas County as the Under Sheriff for 7 years, until retiring from the Sheriff's Office in 1995. Don currently works part-time at Municipal Court. Jo worked for the Douglas County Clerks office for 27 years. She served as Deputy County Clerk for the last 13 years before retiring in 2005. They both remain active in the Lawrence Community and with the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. Their daughters both live nearby in Eudora with their families. Erica and husband Eric Ganson, Adam*, Shawn, Emily, Liam and Michael. Marcie Pell and husband John Opgaard, Nathan and Lily. *Oldest grandson Adam Spurling is currently serving in the US Coast Guard.
