Hannah Jones and Andrew Petz, together with their parents, are pleased to announce their engagement. The future bride is the daughter of Wilma and Gary Jones of Arkansas City, KS. Hannah graduated from Washburn University in 2012 with a degree in Elementary Education. She is a 4th Grade teacher for Olathe Public Schools. The future groom is the son of Susan and Tom Petz of Overland Park, KS. Andy graduated from Washburn University in 2011 with a degree in Physics. He graduated from The University of Kansas School of Engineering in Dec 2012 and is a Civil Engineer with Black and Veatch in Overland Park. A December 2015 wedding is planned in Kansas City.

William and Denise Curnes of Lawrence, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Katelyn Curnes, to Michael Davis, son of Michael W. and Madlyn Davis, of Shawnee, KS. Katelyn is a 2009 graduate of Lawrence High School. She graduated in 2013 from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She is a fifth grade teacher at Corpus Christi Catholic School in Lawrence. Michael is a 2007 graduate from Mill Valley High School. He graduated in 2015 from the University of Kansas with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. He is employed as a pharmacist at Walgreens. A November 2015 wedding is planned in Lawrence.

Haberman and Powers

Emma Elizabeth Haberman, the daughter of Kathleen M. Jones and Clyde Haberman of New York City, was married Saturday September 26th to Caleb Justus Powers, the son of Cheryl M. Powers and Richard R. Powers of Lawrence, KS. Zach Haberman, the bride's brother who became a Universal Life minister for the occasion, officiated in an outdoor ceremony at The Hill, a farm in Hudson, N.Y. The couple, both 29, met at Dartmouth, from which they graduated. Ms. Haberman is the manager of special events at The New School in New York City, where she organizes fund-raising events to support student scholarships. Her father is a contributing writer and former Metro columnist and foreign correspondent for The New York Times. Her mother retired as the director of special projects at Human Rights First, a nonprofit organization in New York. Mr. Powers is a senior associate at Global Infrastructure Partners, a New York-based investment fund. His mother is a retired mediator and former advisor to the Kansas Supreme Court. His father plays guitar in Euphora Stringband, a local old time folk band, and teaches second grade at Eudora Elementary School.

Audrey and Duane Mortensen will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at a reception held Saturday, October 24, from 7 to 10 pm at the Lawrence Union Pacific Depot, 402 North Second St, Lawrence, Kansas. The couple was married October 16, 1955 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota and have resided at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor for five years. They have three children and two grandchildren. Friends and Family are all invited to help celebrate this occasion!

Heck

Emil and Bette Heck were married October 21, 1950 in Gower, Mo at the Gower Christian Church. Emil has been a lifelong farmer and resident of Lawrence and met Bette when she came to Lawrence from the University of Missouri to work as a Douglas County Extension Agent before becoming a lifelong homemaker. They have four children Linda Bennett (Darrell), Mike Heck (Beth), Mark Heck and Susan Holcomb (Bob), 10 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters.

Rezayazdi and Wendland

MIchael T. Rezayazdi and Milton W. Wendland were married at eight o’clock in the evening on Saturday, August 29th, 2015. The sunset ceremony was held poolside at Dante’s Key West resort in the Historic Seaport on the island of Key West, Florida. Susan Kent, friend of the grooms, officiated. The grooms entered in tuxedos from around the pool to greet family and friends, were united during the wedding ceremony they co-wrote, and immediately after they were pronounced married shed their tuxedos and took a “plunge into marriage” in the resort pool. Following the ceremony, their one hundred and thirty guests enjoyed the six-tiered candy-filled rainbow-themed cake, light fare food, drinks, dancing under the stars, and a special guest appearance by Key West drag queen Inga of Aqua Nightclub. The couple welcomed their guests to the island the night before the wedding at a private invitation-only show at the 801 Drag Cabaret on world-famous Duval Street in Key West. Rezayazdi is a registered respiratory therapist at Florida Hospital in Wesley Chapel FL. He is the son of Abbas & Carolyn Rezayazdi and brother of Tanya Rezayazdi, all of Lawrence KS. He graduated from Free State High School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center. Wendland is on the faculty of the University of South Florida in Tampa FL and is also an attorney at law. He is the son of Judy & Gilbert Wegner of Onaga KS and Charles & Cheri Wendland of Lumberton MS. He graduated from Onaga High School in Onaga KS and holds a BA as well as both a PhD and a JD from the University of Kansas. The couple resides near the beach in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida.

Michael & Angela Stokes of Alpharetta, GA, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Marie Stokes, to Alexander Campbell Kipp, Brooklyn. The future bride is a graduate of the Theater & Italian Programs at Syracuse University and works in Manhattan at Inwood House, a not-for-profit that services pregnant and parenting teens. The future groom is a 1991 graduate of Lawrence High School and of the University of Kansas in Theater and Slavic Languages and Literature. He received a Masters of Fine Arts from the Long Island University. He is Director of Ethics Training for the City of New York. Jennifer and Alexander are both active in the New York theater. An upstate New York wedding is planned for next summer.

She is the Digital Sales Manager at WDAF-TV Fox 4 in Kansas City. Kyle is a graduate of Blue Valley North High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas. Kyle is an Electrical Engineer with Honeywell. A November wedding is planned at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas City.

Bill and Karla Fleming of Lawrence, Kansas announce the engagement of their daughter, Kaylen Fleming, to Brandon Akert, son of Leonard and Becky Akert of Lincoln, Nebraska. Kaylen is a graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Juris Doctorate degree from Creighton University School of Law. She is currently an attorney with the law firm, Woods & Aiken LLP, in Lincoln. Brandon is a graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is currently owner and manager of Gate 25 Bar and Restaurant in Lincoln. Recently he created and founded Yes Chef, a catering company. An April 2016 wedding is planned in Lawrence, Kansas.

Tom and Clarice Patchen, of rural Baldwin City, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married September 10, 1965. The family business, Patchen Electric, is located in Lawrence. Earlier this year the couple observed their 50th on a trip to Cancun with their children and grandchildren. At the end of September, friends and family gathered for a backyard barbecue hosted by Tom and Clarice's kids; David and his wife Terry Patchen, of Lawrence, and Jason and his wife Danica Patchen, of Overland Park.

Haley Michelle Epperson of Eudora, KS, and Casey Alan Gleue of Lee's Summit, MO, were married on May 30, 2015 at The Loretto in Kansas City, MO. The bride is the daughter of Eric and Marge Epperson, Eudora, KS. The groom is the son of Bob and Julie DeJonge, Lee's Summit, MO and Alan Gleue and Lou Rawley, Lawrence, KS. Grandparents of the bride are Marlene Ebeling and John and Audrey Novotny, Lawrence, KS and Elmer and Charlotte Epperson, Bella Vista, AR. Grandparents of the groom are Erwin and Marlene Gleue, Independence, KS and Ron and Diane Stephens, Overland Park, KS. Haley received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Baker University. She is a third grade teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District. Casey received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Bioscience from Baker University. He is a medical student at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. The couple reside in Kansas City, KS.
