Evans and Smith
Dr. and Mrs. John Evans of Portland, Oregon and Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Jones of Vista, California are pleased to announce the marriage of their respective sons, John Evans and David Smith of Lawrence, Kansas. The couple married yesterday at Fort Mason in San Francsico, California. They were joined by their son and daughter, Dante and Jakiah Smith Evans. Dr. Evans presided over the wedding. John and David first met at UC Berkeley in 1986 as students. After graduating, they sought jobs with the National Park Service, where they have served since. John currently works as branch chief for the office of Security and Intelligence. The family is currently in the process of moving to Joshua Tree National Park where David will serve as superintendent. The couple look forward to seeing many of their Lawrence friends at the park in the coming years.
Pfannenstiel and Grover
Olivia Pfannenstiel and Benjamin Grover announce their engagement along with their parents. The bride-elect is the daughter of Keith and Paulette Pfannenstiel of Lawrence. The prospective groom is the son of Karl and Catherine Grover of Pawnee Rock. The bride-elect is a graduate of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Wichita. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and her Master of Science degrees in Accounting from the University of Kansas. She is a CPA and employed as a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst at Ascend Learning in Leawood. The prospective groom is a graduate of Great Bend High School. He earned his Associate of Science degree from Barton Community College, and both his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Science degrees in Geography and Environmental Sciences from Fort Hays State University. He is employed as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist at George Butler Associates, Inc. in Lenexa. The wedding is planned for November 1, 2014 in Lawrence.
Donald G. and Roberta J McDow of Lawrence, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on September 9, 2014. They were married in 1949 at Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO. They had 3 children; Richard Ross McDow (now deceased), Suzanne & David Nutt of Lawrence, Deborah & Mark Miller of Kansas City, MO, 5 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren.
Daggett and Albers
Hailey Daggett and Marc Albers were married April 11, 2014 in an outdoor wedding at The Tapestry in Fort Collins, Colorado. The weather was perfect! The reception following was also at The Tapestry. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Ray Crawford. Hailey is the daughter of David and Gay Daggett of Fort Collins and Marc is the son of Tom and Julie Albers of Lawrence. Hailey and Marc are both graduates of Emporia State University. Marc is employed by Huron Consulting out of Chicago and Hailey is employed with New Horizons of Kansas City, MO. They currently reside in Overland Park, KS. Hailey’s maid of honor was her sister Hannah Daggett. Jessica Hillsley, Erica Durler, Andie Albers (Marc’s sister in law) and Bethany Thomas were Hailey’s brides maids. Marc’s best man was Nick Madl. Tyler Knight, Brett Sims, Jacob and Jonathan Albers (Marc’s brothers), Brendan Halpin and Nolan Kellerman were part of wedding party.
Merv and Betty Lynds celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception on August 23, 2014 at Lawrence Wesleyan Church in Lawrence. They were married Augsut 22, 1964 in Frankfort, KS. They have two sons, Andrew (Heather) grandson Ethan and Jarrod (Janelle) Lynds.
Rich and Ginny Hedges were married on September 6, 1969 in Lawrence, KS. Rich worked in the auto parts business, then moved on to a career in the trucking industry. He currently works at Old Dominion Freight Line. Ginny worked primarily in public schools as a para educator for many years. She and Rich also owned Big Guy’s Toy Trucks in the 1990s. They have one daughter, Julie Lowrance (Garry), of Lawrence, KS. The couple will celebrate their 45th anniversary privately with an evening in Kansas City.
Harold and Margaret Jones, Lawrence, will observe their 65th wedding anniversary next Thursday. They were married September 25, 1949, in the United Methodist Church, Osage City, Ks. Both are graduates of Osage City High School. Margaret (Meyer) graduated from Baker University and Harold from the University of Kansas. They lived in South Dakota for 41 years and moved to Lawrence in 1990. They have one daughter, Lynette (Paul) Eastwold, St. Paul, MN; one son Steven (Mary) Jones, Summit, NJ; six grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Their anniversary was celebrated August 9-10 in St. Paul with all members of the family present.
Krones and Sudbeck
John and Kriss Krones and Larry and Rose Mary Sudbeck are pleased to announce the engagement of their children Kristina Krones and Mark Sudbeck. Kristina is from Lawrence, KS and is employed at Nemaha County Coop in Seneca, KS. Mark is from Bern, KS and is self-employed in farming with his father and brothers. The couple will be married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict, KS on October 18, 2014.
Rhoton and Staren
Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Debbie Rhoton of Lawrence are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Leslie Rhoton, to Daniel Staren, son of Dr. and Mrs. Edgar and Lisa Staren, Paradise Valley, Arizona. Leslie is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School. After graduating in 2009 from the University of Kansas with degrees in English and History, she completed her master of science in communication from Northwestern University in 2014. She currently works for the University of Arizona Health Science Center in Phoenix as the Coordinator of Development and Community Outreach. Daniel is a 2005 graduate of Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated in 2009 from the University of Illinois-Chicago with a degree in psychology and completed his master of science in molecular biology in 2012 from Loyola University-Chicago. He will receive his Juris Doctor from Arizona State University in spring 2015. He intends to practice intellectual property law. A May 2015 wedding in Kansas City is planned.

Ellison and Patterson
Crystal Michelle Ellison and Adam Robert Patterson, Lawrence, were married on May 21, 2014, at Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, with Minister Douglas Reed officiating. The bride is the daughter of Wesley and Sherry Ellison, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Rod Patterson and Michelle Miller, both of Lincoln, Nebraska. Maid of Honor was Lane Hermreck. Best Man was Craig Ellingson. Bridesmaids were Kelli Verble and Melissa Travis. Groomsmen were Brandon Van Nice and Matthew McWhirt. A reception was held May 23rd at The Carnegie Building in Lawrence.
Ken and Pat Hahn Blair celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary. They were married on September 25, 1954 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas. The family of three children and spouses, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, nieces and nephews, will gather for church and dinner on Sunday September 28. Ken was employed at the Allen Press for 43 years and Pat was a Floral Designer at Owen’s Flower Shop for 22 years. They live in a Town Home at the Presbyterian Manor.
Lee & Jo (Carney) Connell, Shawnee, KS are celebrating 60 years of marriage. They were married Sept. 26th, 1954 at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence, KS where both grew up. The couple has 3 children; Kim (Jerry) Eisenhower, Dee Connell & Tracy Connell. They have 3 grandchildren, Nicki, Lauren & Taylor & 2 great-grandchildren, Kaylan & Dalton. A family celebration is planned.
Harold & Jeanne Longaker of Lawrence, KS will celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Married October 7, 1954 in Warrensburg, MO. John is a 2005 graduate of Rockhurst High and earned degrees from KU in English and political science. He is employed with Penn Gaming as a food and beverage manager. They will be married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence on October 25, 2014.
Beaver and Green
Krysta Dawn Beaver and Patrick Lee Green, along with their parents, are excited to announce their engagement. Krysta is the daughter of Beverly and T.M. Beaver. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 2006 and later earned her bachelor and doctoral degrees from the University of Kansas. She is currently a clinical assistant professor of audiology at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. Patrick is the son of Tracy and the late Jan Green. He graduated from Lawrence Free State High School in 2006 and later earned his bachelor degree from the University of Kansas. He is currently employed as a producer at Bazillion Pictures in Kansas City, MO. Krysta and Patrick currently live in Lawrence, KS with their dog, Pickles. The wedding date is October 18, 2014.

Collin Watgen, and Chelsea Gallagher were married on July 18, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Church, in Lawrence KS. The bride is the daughter of Tom and Debora Gallagher, Topeka. The groom is the son of Tom and the late Heather Watgen, Lawrence. Maid of Honor was Courtney Chaffins. Best Man was Tommy Watgen. Chelsea graduated from Rolla High School in 2007 and KU in 2013 with a degree in Music Therapy. She is currently employed at Pinnacle Ridge Nursing and Rehab in Olathe, KS. Collin graduated from Free State High School in 2006 and KU in 2010 with a degree in Music Education. He is currently working at Frontier School of Excellence in KCMO.
