Jack and Pat Hohman will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on October 4. They met in Emporia, Kansas and married in Kansas City, KS after Jack returned from Vietnam in 1969. They then moved to Lawrence in 1971 after Jack graduated from Emporia State University. Jack is retired from the State of Kansas, and Pat is the Diabetic Educator at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Celebrating with them are their daughter and her husband, Staci and Jonathan Schwarz, their son and his wife, Jason and Jenny Hohman and their grandchildren Ashlyn Schwarz, Camden Schwarz, Jaylie Hohman and Jonas Hohman.

Amanda Richards and Matthew Green, were married on June 21, 2014, in the Crystal Ballroom at The Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence, Kansas, with Margie Wakefield officiating. The bride is the daughter of Tammy and David Marcum, Olathe and Paul and Lisa Richards, Gardner. The groom is the son of Tom and Patti Green, Lawrence. Maid of Honor was Samantha Richards, sister of the bride. Best Man was Casey Green, brother of the groom. Bridesmaids were Tiffany Richards, Holly Green, Jennifer Toman, Kelsey Pinnick and Danielle Bechard. Groomsmen were Paul Richards, Brady Morningstar, Daniel Pike, Robert Underwood, David Freeman and Brennan Bechard. A reception was held at the W Banquet Hall. Following a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, the couple reside in Lawrence with their wire-haired terrier Razzle.
James and Irene Blom of Lawrence will celebrate their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Irene, a graduate of Kansas University, first met Jim, an Airman 1st Class, at Pawnee Avenue Church of God in Wichita. They were married at First Church of God, Lawrence. The Bloms are proud parents of Jamie Blom of Hamilton Square, NJ and Doug Blom of Blythewood, SC. Doug is married to Tammy and they have two daughters, Eve and Audrey. Jim is a retired systems analyst from Telecordia in Piscataway, NJ. He is a committed master gardener and prolific photographer. Irene is a retired library assistant from Middlesex, NJ schools. She is an avid KU sports fan, an adept worker of crossword puzzles, and pen pal to her youngest granddaughter, Audrey. Jim and Irene retired to Lawrence from Middlesex, NJ in 2002. Both are active members of BridgePointe Community Church. They will be celebrating with their family and friends at a drop-in reception from 2 – 4 in the afternoon at 809 Eldridge St., Lawrence on Saturday, October 18, 2014. We wish them many more happy years of marriage.

The engagement of Laura Donnelly Parkinson, daughter of Mary Parkinson of Lawrence and the late Wayne Parkinson, to Parker Eshelman, son of Grant and Darlene Eshelman of Shawnee, is announced by the bride’s mother. Laura is a 2006 graduate of Lawrence High School, and a 2010 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in convergence journalism. Parker Eshelman graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 2002, and received a bachelor’s degree in photojournalism from the University of Missouri in 2006. The couple lives in New York City. Laura is a video producer for RFI Studios, and Parker is a photo editor for The Wall Street Journal. The couple is planning a June wedding in Kansas City.

Tim and Colleen Gregoire of Lawrence, KS are excited to announce the engagement of their son, Maxwell David Gregoire, to Shasta Nicole Inman, originally of Poplar Bluff, Mo. Gregoire is a 2008 graduate of Lawrence Free State High School, and he earned a B.S. in physics and math in 2012 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Gregoire is a current Ph.D. candidate in atomic, molecular, & optical physics at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Inman is the daughter of Merl Jr. and Sheila Inman of Poplar Bluff, Mo. She graduated in 2007 from Poplar Bluff High School and in 2011 from the University of Nebraska, earning a B.A. in English and women’s & gender studies. Inman will graduate in May 2016 with a J.D./M.A. in gender & women’s studies from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law. The couple plan a May, 2015 wedding in Poplar Bluff.

Ken & Marilyn Hubbard, rural Baldwin, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary, Sunday, Nov. 2nd, 2014. Ken & Marilyn were married Nov. 2nd, 1974 at Washington Creek Church of the Brethren, Lawrence, KS. Ken was a bachelor dairyman, 4-H leader, Extension Council past president, award winner in Douglas Co. Soil Conservation. Marilyn, a widow of eight years, was teaching elementary music in Lawrence when they met at a 4-H meeting. Once Ken spotted the beautiful widow there was no turning back! They share four children, Barbara Hougland, husband Fred, Skiatook, OK, David Ausherman, wife Jill, Colleyville, TX, Linda Swanson, husband Scott, Baldwin and Bruce Ausherman, wife Shelley, Baldwin, KS. Kahla Martin and Ben Brown were married July 19th at Danforth Chapel on KU campus. The reception followed at the Carnegie Building in Lawrence. Kahla is the daughter of Kelly and Allison Martin of Lawrence. Ben is the son of Paul and Debra Brown of Overland Park. Kahla graduated from KU with a degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She is employed at Oskaloosa Elementary as a 4th grade teacher.Ben graduated from Emporia State with degrees in Ceramics and Sculpture. He is employed in the Ceramics Lab at Johnson County Community College. Kahla’s attendants were her sister, Aftan Jameson, her brother, Taylor Martin, and friends Courtney Nichols and Kristin Burhenn. Ben’s attendants were his brothers, David Brown, Jake Brown, and Pete Brown, and friend Paul Woods. The couple resides in Lawrence.

Kelley Shivers of Garden City Kansas, along with David and Brandi Dickerson of Leawood Kansas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jessica Shivers to Lukas Demel. Lukas is the son of Maurice Demel and Lois Demel of Claflin Kansas. He is currently completing a doctor of pharmacy degree at Kansas University with anticipated graduation in May 2015. He is a pharmacy intern at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park. His fiance Jessica graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in family studies and human services, and from Avila University in Kansas City with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is a registered nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence. A November 8th wedding is planned at Abe and Jake’s Landing, Lawrence Kansas.
Schmidt and Caboni
Kacy Myree Schmidt and Timothy Christian Caboni were married Saturday, September 6th by Rev. Johnny Adams at the Windsor Court in New Orleans, LA. Mrs. Caboni, is director of development at the Kansas University Endowment Association, where she raises money for the KU School of Business. She graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is the daughter of Tracy and Kay Schmidt of Manhattan, KS. Mr. Caboni, works as vice chancellor for public affairs at the University of Kansas, where he serves as principal spokesperson and oversees the communications, marketing, and legislative advocacy efforts of the university. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in speech and rhetoric from Louisiana State University. He also has a doctor of philosophy degree in higher education leadership and public policy from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. He is the son of August Caboni of New Orleans, LA, and Kathleen Quinn of San Antonio, TX.
