Bender and Chaney
Kathy and Richard Chaney of Lawrence are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, J. Spence Chaney to Laura E. Bender, daughter of Jack and Shelly Bender of Eudora and Crys Galivan of Boonsboro, MD. Laura is a 2004 graduate of Free State High School and a 2012 graduate of B Street Beauty School in Lawrence. She is currently employed as a cosmetologist at Great Clips in Lawrence. Spence is a 2003 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 2005 graduate of Allen County Community College. He is currently employed as a heavy equipment foreman at Conley Sitework and Utilities, Inc. in Linwood. The couple is planning an April 12, 2014 wedding at the First Christian Church in Lawrence.
Fish and Wittman
Gary and Melinda Fish, Lawrence, along with Ed and Kim Wittman, Lawrence, are pleased to announce the engagement of their children, Carly Fish and Eric Wittman. The future bride is a 2008 graduate of Lawrence Free State High School, and a 2012 graduate of the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Atmospheric Science with a minor in mathematics. She is currently a GRA at the University of Kansas in Atmospheric Science and will earn her Masters Degree this summer. The future groom is a 2008 graduate of Lawrence High School. Eric earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 2012. He is currently working in Overland Park, Kansas at Black and Veatch as a mechanical engineer. The couple will wed on September 13, 2014 at Alvamar Country Club.
Johnson and Colwell
Together with their families, Lesley Johnson and Ronald J. (RJ) Colwell, would like to announce their engagement. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Ann and Steve Johnson of Lawrence, Kansas. She is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School and graduated from Kansas State University with a Public Relations degree in 2004. The future groom is the son of Ronald Colwell and Mary Chang. He is a 2003 graduate of Neenah High School in Neenah, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in History in 2007. After college, RJ served as an officer in the United States Army and is an Iraq war veteran. They currently reside in Lone Tree, Colorado with their dog, Magoo, where Lesley is a Special Events Coordinator with the City and RJ is currently seeking a law degree at the University of Denver. A summer wedding is planned in Keystone, Colorado for August 9, 2014.
Miller and Neff
Brock and Angie Miller are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Breaer Angelique Miller of Eudora, Kansas to Taylor Lee Neff, son of Jeff and Nancy Neff of Andale, Kansas. Bre is a 2009 graduate of Eudora High School. She received a BS in Pharmaceutical Studies from the University of Kansas, is a third year pharmacy student at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and is working as a student intern at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Taylor is a 2009 graduate of Andale High School. He received a BA in Microbiology from the University of Kansas and is currently a second year medical student at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. A June 14, 2014 wedding is planned at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, Kansas.
Schueler and Emerson
Stew Platz and Sindey Schueler-Platz of Lawrence, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Schueler, to Adam Emerson, son of Bob and Millie Emerson of Kechi, Kansas. The future bride and groom are 2008 graduates of Lawrence Free State High School. Samantha earned her BS in Aerospace Engineering from KU in 2012, will complete a MS in Aerospace Engineering from KU in May 2014. Adam earned his BS in Civil Engineering from K-State in 2013 and is employed by Trans System in Wichita, Kansas. A July 19, 2014 wedding is planned at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence.
Trezise and Gandy
Haley N. Trezise and Robert O. Gandy were united in marriage in a garden wedding at 6 p.m. Sept 7 at the home of Mike and Lori Hutfles in Lawrence, Kansas. Parents of the couple are Jim Trezise, Jeanne Trezise, Hutchinson, and Susan Gandy, Olathe and the late Robert Gandy. Matron of honor was Jessica Brown, Lawrence. Best man was Dan Dishman, Kansas City, MO. The couple honeymooned in Loveland, Colorado and will be residing in Iola, Kansas. The bride graduated from The University of Kansas with a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies. She is the Executive Director of the Allen County Historical Society Museum in Iola. The bridegroom attended Emporia State University. He is a painter and is studying sculptured glass blowing.
Nease and Penny
David and Carmen Penny of Lawrence are pleased to announce the engagement of their son Michael Penny to Kathleen Nease, daughter of Gary and Kathy Nease, of Corsicana, Texas. Michael is a 2008 graduate of Veritas Christian School and a 2014 graduate of Texas A&M. He graduates with a BS and Masters in Mechanical Engineering. Michael will be taking a job with Rolls Royce in Indianapolis, Indiana in June 2014. Kathleen is a 2006 graduate of Corsicana High School and a 2010 graduate of Texas A&M. She graduated with a BS in Enviromental Geoscience with a minor in Geography. She is currently employed at TDI-Brooks International as a Quality Management Representative in College Station, TX. The couple plan a June 1st, 2014 wedding in College Station, TX and a post-wedding reception in Lawrence on June 14th, 2014.
Slater and Thomas
Tom and Dori Slater of LaGrange, Georgia, announce the engagement of their daughter Courtney Slater to Ben Thomas, son of Neil and Kathleen Wright of Lawrence, and the late Steve Thomas, Hartford, Kansas. The future bride is a graduate of Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Theater. She is employed as an Office Manager with Regency Centers in Atlanta, Georgia. The future groom is also a graduate of Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He is employed as the Manager of Public Programs at the Atlanta History Center. An April 2014 wedding is planned in LaGrange, Georgia with a reception in July 2014 in Lawrence, Kansas.
Volek and Castro
Gema Ruby Castro of Houston, TX and Christopher Volek of Lawrence, KS were married August 31, 2013 at the Fairmont Mayakoba in Cancun, Mexico. Aaron Webber of Lawrence was the best man. Brooke Gillis of Houston was the maid of honor. The groom walked down the aisle with his grandmother Anne Victoria Stronach and his parents Tom and Melody Volek, Lawrence. The bride was escorted by her parents Carlos and Mayra Castro of Nicaragua. The wedding took place outdoors with the Gulf of Mexico and tropical foliage as a beautiful background. Gema wore a full length strapless gown and carried a bouquet of fuchsia and white star lilies. The groom, best man and both father’s wore traditional guayabera shirts. A reception for family and friends followed the wedding. The bride and groom honeymooned in Spain before returning to Midland, TX where they reside.
Erickson and Novosel
A May 24, 2014, wedding at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, KS, is planned by Ann Erickson and Christopher Novosel. Parents of the engaged couple are Richard and Marcy Erickson of Tonganoxie, KS, and Davor and Deb Novosel of Columbia, MO. The future bride is a first-year medical student at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. The future groom is a graduate student in transportation engineering at the University of Kansas.
