Eric earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 2012. Together with their families, Lesley Johnson and Ronald J. (RJ) Colwell, would like to announce their engagement. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Ann and Steve Johnson of Lawrence, Kansas. She is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School and graduated from Kansas State University with a Public Relations degree in 2004. The future groom is the son of Ronald Colwell and Mary Chang. After college, RJ served as an officer in the United States Army and is an Iraq war veteran. They currently reside in Lone Tree, Colorado with their dog, Magoo, where Lesley is a Special Events Coordinator with the City and RJ is currently seeking a law degree at the University of Denver. A summer wedding is planned in Keystone, Colorado for August 9, 2014.

Haley N. Trezise and Robert O. Gandy were united in marriage in a garden wedding at 6 p.m. Sept 7 at the home of Mike and Lori Hutfles in Lawrence, Kansas. Parents of the couple are Jim Trezise, Jeanne Trezise, Hutchinson, and Susan Gandy, Olathe and the late Robert Gandy. Matron of honor was Jessica Brown, Lawrence. Best man was Dan Dishman, Kansas City, MO. The couple honeymooned in Loveland, Colorado and will be residing in Iola, Kansas. The bride graduated from The University of Kansas with a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies. She is the Executive Director of the Allen County Historical Society Museum in Iola. The bridegroom attended Emporia State University. He is a painter and is studying sculptured glass blowing.

Gema Ruby Castro of Houston, TX and Christopher Volek of Lawrence, KS were married August 31, 2013 at the Fairmont Mayakoba in Cancun, Mexico. Aaron Webber of Lawrence was the best man. Brooke Gillis of Houston was the maid of honor. The groom walked down the aisle with his grandmother Anne Victoria Stronach and his parents Tom and Melody Volek, Lawrence. The bride was escorted by her parents Carlos and Mayra Castro of Nicaragua. The wedding took place outdoors with the Gulf of Mexico and tropical foliage as a beautiful background. Gema wore a full length strapless gown and carried a bouquet of fuchsia and white star lilies. The groom, best man and both father’s wore traditional guayabera shirts. A reception for family and friends followed the wedding. The bride and groom honeymooned in Spain before returning to Midland, TX where they reside.

The bride is the daughter of Paul and Sue Schuster, Lawrence. She is the granddaughter of Ruby Schuster and the late Paul Schuster, Garnett and the late Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Lilly of Ottawa. The groom is the son of John and Lori Lorg, Olathe. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Chambliss, Overland Park and Leo Lorg, of Wichita. Given in marriage by her parents, she was escorted by her father, Paul Schuster to begin the formal early evening ceremony and attended by Matron of Honor Katie Havelka of Springfield, MO, friend of the bride. Additional bridesmaids included Jamie Evans, Lenexa, KS, and Jill Miller, Olathe, KS friends of the bride. Wedding attendants to the bride included Beth Blankers, Lincoln, NE and Bethany Nesbitt, Prairie Village, also friends of the bride. Serving as Best Man was Bryan Haeusser of St. Louis, MO, friend of the groom. Groomsmen included John Ross Lorg, brother of the groom, and Jordan Hilgers, Denver, CO, friend of the groom. Madison Strawder-Coursen of Burlington, niece of the bride, lit candles in memory of grandparents. Natalie Strawder, Burlington, and Aurora Wilhelm, Edwardsville, IL, both nieces to the bride tossed rose petals from white baskets ahead of the bride. They were followed by ring bearers Luke and Zachary Nielsen, Mt. Vernon WA, nephews of the groom. Serving as ushers were Jeremy Aber, Murfreesboro, TN, brother-in-law to the bride, Jeff Givens, Colorado Springs, CO, Nick Jerkovich, Olathe, and Bill Steinke, Lake Lotawana, MO, all friends of the groom. Scripture was read by Amy Harris-Aber, sister of the bride. Miranda Wilhelm, sister of the bride, and Katie Strawder-Schuster, sister-in-law of the bride, and Michelle Nielsen, sister of the groom, Wichita, KS assisted with the children in the bridal party. The bride wore a dress fashioned by Maggie Sottero, Bronwyn consisting of a lace and tulle slim line gown with V-neckline and cap-sleeves, featuring a separate light gold slip gown of Vogue satin. The open back was finished with a row of satin covered buttons over a zipper closure. Her bridal bouquet was made from hydrangea and light pink spray rose stem with Vendela roses and Queen Anne’s lace. A pearl necklace was woven through the bouquet in remembrance of the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. Doris Lilly. She also wore her mothers‘ pearls as a bracelet. A flower barrette in her hair was fashioned by Amy Chambliss-Keith, aunt of the groom. The reception following the ceremony featured toasts to the bride and groom by their fathers as well as the Matron of Honor and Best Man. Both the reception and dance that followed were held at the Hotel Phillips. John Canterbury of Merriam, KS provided music for the evening. The bride is a graduate of Larned High School, Larned, KS and the University of Kansas, Lawrence, with a degree in Marketing and International Business. She currently works as office manager at Clinical Psychology Practice LLC in Prairie Village. The groom is a graduate of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School of Overland Park and the University of Kansas School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Lawrence, KS. He is currently employed as the Microsoft Dynamic Project Lead of ATK, formerly Bushnell, of Overland Park. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon in San Juan, Puerto Rico and will make their home in Olathe.

Former Lawrence, KS residents, Donald S. Frey Sr. and Leah (Boone) Frey celebrated 60 years of marriage with family and friends at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield, California. They were married Feb. 10, 1954 and have lived in Fairfield since 1963. The couple’s children are Donald Frey Jr. of Fairfield; Cynthia Murphy of Mountain House, California; Donna Emery of Lawrence; and Jerry Jackson of Wisconsin. They have eight grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. Donald retired from the United States Air Force in 1969. He then worked as a claims representative for California State Automobile Association. Leah retired from North Bay Medical Center. After retirement, she worked as an Ombudsman for the Agency on Aging. The couple met when Leah’s father was assigned to Pastor St. James AME Church in Lawrence in 1942.
Come celebrate Donna and Mike Neuner’s fiftieth anniversary with an open house on Saturday, April 5, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, at Union Pacific Depot (no gifts, please)... The couple was married on April 4, 1964, at the Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Illinois They moved to Lawrence in 1973 where Mike attended graduate school. Since graduating in 1976, he has worked as an independent IT contractor. He retired in 2001. Donna spent 30 years with the Kansas University Alumni Association working with their travel program and class reunions. She retired in 2003. Since retirement, the couple has traveled to Alaska, Hawaii and Central America.

Caroline Jardine McGregor and Darren William Smith, both of Washington, D.C., were married on November 10, 2013, at Woodend Nature Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, Md. The bride, originally of Russellville, Ark., is the daughter of Jane Dickie McGregor and Alexander Bradford “Sandy” McGregor of Russellville. She is the granddaughter of the late John Adams Dickie and Dorothy Merkel Dickie of Hamden, Conn., and the late George Henry McGregor and Marion Jardine McGregor of Fairfax, Va. Caroline graduated from Wellesley College in 2001 with a bachelors degree and Columbia University in 2007 with a masters degree. She currently is employed at the U.S. Department of Energy. The groom, originally of Lawrence, is the son of William Duane Smith and Darlene Bauer Smith of Boerne, Texas, and formerly of Lawrence. He is the grandson of Lena Patenaude Smith and the late Claude Harry Smith of Miltonvale, Kan., and Mabel Meyer Bauer and the late Martin Frederick Bauer of Garden City, Kan. Darren graduated from Lawrence High School in 1996, American University in Washington, D.C. in 2000 with a bachelors degree and Virginia Tech in Alexandria, Va., in 2006 with a masters degree. He is a transportation planning consultant and entrepreneur. The wedding was officiated by the Rev. Amanda Poppei, Senior Clergy Leader at the Washington Ethical Society. Attending the bride were her sister Elizabeth McGregor Jacobides and friends Laurie Freeman, Margot Pollans, and Pavani Reddy. Groomsmen were friends John Swanson and Jonathan Rogers, the groom’s brother-in-law Mike Fincke, and the bride’s brother Kevin McGregor. Readers were the bride’s aunt Janet McGregor and the groom’s sister Stephanie Fincke. Family and friends celebrated the union at a reception at Woodend Sanctuary, and at a brunch the following day at the McLean, Va., home of Charles Ing and Janet McGregor, featuring an outdoor performance by the Nashville, Tenn., band The Farewell Drifters.

Courtney Taylor and Logan Ortiz were united in marriage on June 22, 2013, at the Kansas State Gardens with Pastor Justin Jenkins officiating. The ceremony was followed by a reception at Prairie Woods Preserve in Manhattan, KS. The bride is the daughter of Dr. Mark and Cheri Taylor of Lawrence. The groom is the son of LTC Luis and Stacey Ortiz of Radford, VA. The couple will honeymoon in Europe this June and will reside in Dallas, TX. Logan currently works as an engineer for Bartlett & West and Courtney will graduate from K-State this May with a degree in Interior design.
