Mesler and Dressler

Kailey Ann Mesler, Lawrence, and Michael John Dressler, Kansas City, were married on June 7, 2013, at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Kansas City, Kansas, with Fr. Harry Schneider officiating. The bride is the daughter of Scott and Mindy Mesler, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Roy and Beverly Harris, Olathe. Maid of Honor was Alison Mesler. Best Man was Mike Gardner. Bridesmaids were Chelsea Albert, Amanda Cox, Melissa Harmon, Nicole McWilliams, Jessica Nichols, and Ashley Ramirez. Groomsmen were Bryan Brady, Jarod Clarey, Neil Harris, Richard Harris, Grant Monnig, Justin Pickert, and Ryan Pickert. Ushers were Joey Ford, Neil Harris, Jr., and Dave Jones. The flower girl was Mallory Love, flower babies were Addison Achberger and Naomi Singletary, and James Love was the ring bearer. Readers were Phil Love and Joseph Serrano. A reception was held following the wedding ceremony at The Sawyer Room in Kansas City, Missouri. The bride is a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High School. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2008 and her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2012, both from the University of Kansas. She is employed by Olathe Medical Services as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The groom is a 2000 graduate of Bonner Springs High. He graduated in 2008 from Donnelly College with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelors of Science in Economics. He is employed by the Federal Aviation Administration in Olathe as an air traffic controller. The couple reside in Gardner.



Rev. Charles F. “Freddie” and Winona Marks of Lawrence celebrate 65 years of love for each other, focus on family and partnership in ministry. Married June 7, 1949 in Edmond, Oklahoma they spent their lives raising five children - Mary (David Sallee); Mark (Shanon); Charlie, deceased (Sue); Teddy (Cynthia) and Paul - in pastorates across the United States. Family and friends are invited to help celebrate their continually-unfolding life story. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will honor their legacy at a reception to be held Saturday, June 7, 2014. They will receive guests from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at First Southern Baptist Church, 4300 West 6th Street, in Lawrence.



Bob and Jane Clinton were married on June 13, 1964 at the bride’s home. Bob is from Effingham, KS and Jane (Swartz) is from Everest, KS. They met at Highland Junior College, continued their education at Emporia State University. Bob taught school at Waverly, Burlington, Summerville. Jane taught at Westphallia, Burlington, Summerville, and 26 years at Eudora High School. In 1977, they moved to Lawrence for Bob to acquire his MBA. He worked at Quaker Oats for 13 years before returning to teach at Central Heights High School. Bob also taught Drivers Education for Eudora 20 years. After retiring, Jane and Bob have been substitute teachers for Eudora and Central Heights school districts. They celebrated their anniversary with their family in Mexico. Daughters: Bonnie and Mark Mills, Lawrence, KS children Andrea, Samantha, Jacob; Tracy and David Vanoncini, Los Altos, CA children Jason, Justin; Karla and Brett Larson, Los Altos, CA children Skyler, Forrest, Kyle. Wayne and Ruth Pine will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary on June 17th. There will be a family celebration.


Van Foeken

Bert & Barbara were married on June 13, 1964 In South Bend IN. Barbara met Bert, who had moved to the USA from Almelo, Netherlands, at her first position after grad- uating from Indiana University. They lived in the Chicago area for 12 years and then Bert’s Company moved them to Mississippi, back to Chicago, Georgia and then to California where he retired. Barbara retired in 2006 and they moved to Lawrence. They celebrated their anniversary with their family, Sons Lambertus III and Michelle, Overland Park, and son Lambertus IV and Charles Randolph and Julie, Lawrence KS and sons Noah, Nathan, Jacob and Joshua.


Smith and Tate

Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Smith of Lawrence announce the engagement of their daughter, Abby Smith to Derek Tate, son of Ms. Terry Tate and Mr. Larry Tate. Miss Smith graduated from Buhler high school and the University of Kansas majoring in community health education and dental hygiene. Mr. Tate graduated from De Soto high school and Oklahoma State University where he ran track and cross country and majored in business management. They currently reside in downtown Kansas City. Fun fact: on their first date realized they were both born at Lawrence Memorial. An October wedding is planned in Lawrence at the First United Methodist Church and Oread.


Hemphill and Christenson

David and Carlotta Hemphill of Lawrence are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Andrea Hemphill, to Ty Christenson, son of BC and Deb Christenson of Tucson, AZ. The future bride is a 2002 graduate of Lawrence High School and attended the University of Iowa. She is currently working for Target as a Sr. Field Campus Recruiter. The future groom is a 2000 graduate of Lincoln East High School and attended Texas Christian University. He is currently an Insurance Advisor for JM Marketing. The couple resides in Overland Park, KS. An October 18, 2014 wedding is planned at Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence.


Lewis and Shahbazi

Wanda Lewis, mother of the bride and Brian and Cathi Lewis of Lawrence are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jenny Lewis, to Mahyar Shahbazi, son of Wilma and Rick Loving of Leawood, KS and Masoud and Maryam Shahbazi of KC, MO. The future bride is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High. She graduated from KU in 2010 with a degree in Applied Behavioral Science. In 2013, she graduated with her master’s degree from Friends University in Marriage and Family Therapy and is currently working in private practice. The future groom is a 2004 graduate of Blue Valley North High. He graduated from KU in 2008 with a degree in Exercise Science. In 2013, he graduated from Ku Med with his doctorate degree in Physical Therapy and currently works for an in-home health company. A November 8, 2014 wedding is planned at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mission, KS.



Rev. and Mrs. William Dulin will celebrate their Golden 50th Wedding Anniversary Friday, June 20, 2014. Bill and Pauline were married on June 20, 1964, in Lawrence, Kansas. Their union has been blessed with four children: daughter, Cherisa (Anthony Jones); sons: Bill Jr. (Judi); Darian (Tiffany); and Daniel Dulin. They have seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. McCandless and Woodling

Chuck Woodling and Carolyn McCandless were married June 20, 1964, at Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. Chuck was a sports writer for 46 years, including 37 years as sports editor of the Journal- World. Carolyn was Kindergarten teacher at Perry Grade School for 21 years. Their children are Carrie Dixon of Franklin Lakes, N.J., and Gena Woodling of Lawrence. A celebratory family cruise is planned for next summer.


Lillich and Axcell

Robert and Erlinda Lillich of Derby, Kansas are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Crystal Lynn Lillich, to Erick Wayne Axcell, son of William and Nan Axcell of Lawrence, Kansas. The bride to be received a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing from Wichita State University in 2008 and currently works as a Registered Nurse at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. The groom to be received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas in 2012 and currently works at his family’s business Jayhawk Pharmacy. A September 13th, 2014 wedding is planned at The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri. After a honeymoon in Bora Bora, the couple will reside in Lawrence, Kansas.


Bireta and Stevenson

Rich and Jane Bireta of Lawrence, Kansas are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Anne Marie Bireta to Darrell Stevenson, son of Fred and Ester Stevenson of Rolla, Misssouri. Anne Marie is a graduate of Truman State University and received a master’s degree from Rockhurst University . Darrell is a graduate of the University of Missouri. They live in Overland Park, Kansas, where Anne Marie is a second grade teacher and Darrell is an internal auditor. A July wedding is planned.


Valencia and McNamara

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Valencia of Lawrence, KS, announce the engagement of their daughter, Alysha Lauren Valencia, to Sean Michael McNamara, son of Michael and Jan McNamara of Elmhurst, IL. The future bride graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree and is also a 2006 graduate from Free State High School. She is employed as a Group Sales Rep at Assurant Employee Benefits in Chicago, IL. The future groom received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan. He is the President of a mobile app technology company. An October 2014 wedding is planned in Chicago, IL. Go Blue!


Amerine and Jensen

Randall & Ruth Amerine, Lecompton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jamie to Zo Jensen. Zo is the son of Lorenzo & Jackie Jensen, Iola. Jamie is a graduate of Perry Lecompton High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Carolina, Upstate in Spartanburg, SC and her Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University. She is the Head Softball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Allen Community College in Iola, KS. Zo is a graduate of Iola High School. He received his degree in Occupational Studies from Universal Technical Institute in Houston, TX. Zo is Lead Foreman for J&J Contractors of Iola. The wedding is planned for July 26th.


Ward and Jones

Mr. & Mrs. Mark A. Ward of Tecumseh, together with Mr. & Mrs. Herman T. Jones of Berryton are pleased to announce the engagement of their children, Jaclyn Paige Ward and Philip Anthony Jones. Paige and Philip are both graduates of Shawnee Heights High School and received undergraduate and Master degrees from the University of Kansas. Paige is a Senior Associate with Grant Thornton and Philip is a teacher and coach for the Tonganoxie School District. They reside in Kansas City, Kansas. A December 2014 wedding is planned at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence, Kansas.
