Couples announcements for December 2014



Bower and Duhigg

Michel and Sue Bower announce the engagement of their daughter Alyssa Marie Bower to James Thomas Duhigg. James is the son of Thomas and Teresa Duhigg. The bride is a 2013 graduate of Lawrence High School and continues her education at the University of Kansas and is currently working as a Chiropractic Assistant. The groom is a 2012 graduate of Lawrence High School and has attended the University of Arizona and the University of Kansas. He is currently working as a supervisor at Freddy’s. The couple is planning a wedding for January 2015.


Bullerman and Duckers

Terry and Lisa Bullerman of Lawrence, KS are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Leigh Bullerman, to Ryan McHale Duckers, son of David and Marianne Duckers of Kansas City, KS. The future bride is a 2005 Lawrence High graduate. She graduated with her BS in Biology from Newman University before receiving her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The University of Kansas. She is employed by Pinnacle Therapy Services in Overland Park, KS. The future groom is a 1996 Bishop Ward graduate. He graduated from Washburn University with his B.S. in Criminal Justice. He is employed by the state of Kansas as a Court Services Officer. A June 2015 wedding is planned at The Cathedral of St. Peters in Kansas City, KS.



Don and Nova Cottrell, Perry, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on December 24th. Hosts will be their children, Patty and Rob Dannenberg, Gene and Kim Cottrell, James Cottrell and Kellie Munger, all of Perry, and their families. The Cottrells were married December 24, 1949, in Topeka. Don is retired from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 441, Wichita, and Nova is retired from Jostens Printing and Publishing, Topeka. After retirement they took on the project of saving the historical Charles Curtis house. The house, now known as The Charles Curtis House Museum, is one of the historical attractions of Topeka and is toured by many each year.


Friar and Rombough

Amanda Friar and Ian Rombough were married Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Nemo Community Church, Nemo, SD. The officiant was Nick Rombough, uncle of the groom. The bride is the daughter of Troy and Jennifer Friar, and granddaughter of Marilyn Siravo, all of Arvada, CO. She is a graduate of Pomona High School and Mesa State College. She is employed as the Information Services Officer for the Rapid City Area Schools. The groom is the son of Lance and Julia Rombough, Keystone, SD (formerly of Lawrence, KS), the grandson of the late Morton and Betty Green (Lawrence, KS) and Ronald and JoAn Rombough, Hill City, SD. He is a graduate of Lawrence Free State High School and Johnson County Community College. He is employed as the Operations Manager for Haugo Broadcasting. Maid of honor was Meghan Goheen. Bridesmaids were Danielle Gorecki, Hope McCleary, Leesa Johnson, and Sylvia Redetzke. Best man was Adrian Ludwig. Groomsmen were Adam Rombough (brother of the groom), Ben Friar (brother of the bride), Jersey Steve, and Josh Kennedy. Flower girls were Aliya Johnson and Caylie Johnson. Ring bearer was Holden Thompson. A reception was held at The Sturgis Buffalo Chip following the ceremony. The couple reside in Rapid City, SD.



Claude and LaVonne Shawley, Linwood, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary January 3, 2015. They were married Jan. 3, 1965, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson, KS. LaVonne was employed at NCS Pearson/Vangent in Lawrence and Claude was employed by the Kansas Department of Transportation as a senior engineering technician. Both retired after 14 and 34 years of service, respectively. Their children are Brenda Shawley and David Shawley, Lawrence, and have six loving grandchildren. Glen F. O’Connor and Elizabeth (Betty) J. Wulfkuhle were married on January 1, 1944 at the home of Betty’s parents near Stull. A family dinner will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. Their children are Kenneth (Patty) O’Connor, Lecompton and Brenda (Mitch) Sexton, Berryton. They have two grandsons Mitchell (Nancy) Sexton, Berryton and Michael (Tara) O’Connor, Lecompton and two great-granddaughters Cassody and Logan O’Connor.
