Ballock and Barone

LaDonna and Don Ballock of Eudora, KS, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Marie Ballock, to Corey Joe Barone, son of Debra and Don Barone of Arma, KS. The couple met at their alma mater, Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, KS. The future bride is currently earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Rockhurst University. Her fiance is pursuing a masters degree in Health, Human Performance, and Wellness from Pittsburg State University and is currently employed by Adidas. A January 2014 wedding is planned at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora, KS.

Bob & Lee Ann Duver celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a return trip to Turkey. They were married on June 1st, 1963 in Belton, MO. Bob is a retired Social Security Administration supervisor and Lee Ann is a retired Lawrence, KS kindergarten teacher. They have two daughters, Amy, Mrs. Michael Schneider, and Kylee, Mrs. Aaron Miller, and four beautiful grandchildren.

Niehoff and Young

Jim Niehoff, Quenemo and Diane Young, Council Grove, were married September 22, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church, Vasser. They will celebrate 50 years of marriage with a reception Sunday afternoon, September 29, 2013. Jim previously owned and operated Jim’s Electric and Niehoff Heating and Air in Lawrence. The business was sold to a long time employee and currently operates as Niehoff Dunco Heating & Air. Diane sold Home Interiors and Gifts for 25 years. After retiring, the Niehoff’s established and operated Three Sisters Inn in Baldwin City for 12 years until selling to guests who continue to operate the inn. The Niehoff’s have three children, Donna (Mike) Kneedler, Baldwin City, Julie Harris and Ryan Niehoff, Lawrence; and two grandsons, AJ and Luke Kneedler. Family and friends are invited to a reception Sunday, September 29, between 1 and 3 pm with a square/round dance following, 3 to 5:30 pm at Stoney Point Hall, 1514 N. 600 Rd, Baldwin City. The couple requests no gifts.

Murrell

Dave and Bette Murrell of Overland Park, KS, celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on September 14, 2013. They were married at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Creve Coeur, MO, on September 14, 1963. Their loving family includes three children: David Murrell, Jr. (Tara); Lisa O’Toole (Dave); and Stephanie Murrell, and six grandchildren, all in the Kansas City area. Among many wonderful memories are the interesting places they have lived (including Lawrence), Japan, Germany and Russia. The family will celebrate this special occasion at The Classic Cup on the Country Club Plaza. The couple will top off their celebration with a trip to Williamsburg, VA, and Washington, DC.

Stan and Janet (Beckner) Roth, of Lawrence, were married June 2, 1963, in Neodesha, Kansas. The couple, along with their son Jim (Jane), Winnipeg, Manitoba, and daughter Debby (Brad), Lawrence, and grandchildren Jack, Carson, Maggie, and Adam Ziegler, Tim and Alex Roth, celebrated the 50th Anniversary in June on Lake Hennepin in Minnesota. The entire family will continue the celebration on the Big Island of Hawaii in December.

Bob and Barbara Walden will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on September 19, 2013. They were married September 19, 1953 in Richland, Kansas. They celebrated earlier with all their family in Grandbury, TX. The couple have two children, Cindy (Don) Wampler in Overland Park, KS and Wayne (Leslie) Walden in Euless, TX; and three grandchildren: Mark (Rebekah) Wampler, Brad (Nicole) Wampler, and Addison Walden. Pat and Vickie Mulvihill of Perry, announce the engagement of their daughter Maureen, to Brad Anderson, son of Andy and Kathy Anderson, Jr., Overland Park, KS. The future bride is a 2008 graduate of Perry-Lecompton High School, Perry. She received her B.S. from the University of Kansas in Business /Marketing in 2012. Maureen is currently employed by SE2/Security Benefit in Topeka. The future groom is a 2003 graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School, Overland Park. He received his B.A. from the University of Kansas in Chemistry/Science in 2012. Brad is currently working at the KU Medical Center in the Health Science Library in Kansas City, KS. The couple plan to be married October 26, 2013, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Perry, KS.

Michelle Colgan and Jon Hall, Lawrence, were married on August 17th, 2013 at the Baldwin First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, KS. Reverend Paul Babcock officiated the ceremony. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Stony Point Hall in Baldwin City, KS. Michelle is the daughter of Dr. Marilyn Colgan, Lawrence, and the granddaughter of Charles and Margaret Hodges, Lawrence, and Vincent and Phyllis Colgan, Holdrege, NE. Jon is the son of Donald and Gina Hall, Lawrence. Michelle’s sister, Dr. Melissa Kalb of Lawrence, was the Matron of Honor. Best man was Jon’s brother, Conner Hall, Lenexa, KS. Bridesmaids were Kactus Bidwell, Manhattan, KS; Jarah Hauger, Gardner, KS; Kelsey Mueller, Manhattan, KS; and Melissa Navinskey, Cummings, KS. Groomsmen were Michael Cox, Grantville, KS; Danny Munck, Grantville, KS; and Wes Cook, Murfeesboro, TN. Ushers were Tucker Gabriel, cousin of bride, Eurdora, KS and the groomsmen. The bride’s personal attendant was Martha Riese, friend of the bride, Minneapolis, KS. Candle lighters were Mary Hencke, Minneapolis, MN and Julie Heschmeyer, Lawrence, KS, both friends of the bride. Ring bearer was Brady Kalb, nephew of the bride, Lawrence, and flower girl was Madison Cox, friend of couple, Grantville. Chocolate fountain attendants were Judy Colson, Olathe, KS, and Michelle, Lacey, and Lauren Gabriel, Eudora, KS, all cousins of the bride. Cake attendants were DeeAnn Dornes, Waverly, KS; Suellyn Stone, Belton, MO; both aunts of groom, and Cindy Potthoff, Lincoln, NE; and Jean Phillips, Charlotte, NC, both aunts of the bride. The bride is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Industry from Kansas State University in 2009 and recently graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2013. Michelle is an associate veterinarian at Atchison Animal Clinic in Atchison, KS. The groom is a 2003 graduate of Lawrence High School and studied at Johnson County Community College. He is now a full time student currently enrolled at Highland Community College in their Industrial Welding Program in Atchison, KS. The couple resides in Atchison, KS.

Dan and Julie Rea of Lawrence, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, September 18. They took a day trip to Kansas City Ironhorse Golf Course. They were married at their home on Sunday, September 18, 1988. They have two sons, Aaron, who attends Emporia State University and Adam, who attends Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Plowman

George and Linda (Floro) Plowman celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 10th, 2013. This special day was celebrated with their 3 children: Kevin (Mary) Plowman of Lawrence, Ks; Patti (Mike) Kasselman of Great Bend, Ks; and Penny (Doug) Lawson of Larned, Ks; 8 grandchildren: Derek (and wife, Melissa), Mercedes, Sarah, Brianna, Amber, Branson, Kacee, and Catera; and one great granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane. The family attended a surprise get-together at the Royals-Red Sox baseball game in Kansas City on August 9th, followed by a lunch reception at Paisano’s Restaurant in Lawrence on Saturday August 10th. The weekend was complete with a Sunday picnic at Lone Star Lake, where George had proposed marriage to Linda over 50 years ago. Thank you to all of the friends and family who sent cards for this special occasion! George and Linda continue to reside in Hays, Ks, after moving from Great Bend, Ks in 1990.

Ahlert and Thompson

Alyssa Thompson and Joshua Ahlert were united in marriage on September 7, 2013 in Waukegan, IL. The bride is the daughter of Steve and Tammy Thompson of Kansas City, MO. She is a 2012 graduate of McPherson High School, McPherson, KS. The bride is currently stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Great Lakes, IL. The groom is the son of Traci and James Wilson of Lawrence and the late James Ahlert. He is a 2007 graduate of Lawrence Free State High School and attended Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, KS. Upon completion of training, the couple will receive assignment to another U.S. naval base.

Bill and Linda (Henrichs) Gerdes, Lecompton, will celebrate their 50th Wedding anniversary on September 28th. They were married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wymore, NE and farmed near Herkimer, Kansas until they moved to Lecompton in 1990. Bill is an enumerator with NASDA, Topeka and Linda works with budget/personnel at KU. They are the parents of Richard (Penny) Gerdes, Castle Rock, CO and DeAnn (Michael) Steinle, Lawrence, KS. Michelle Sauer and Jason Carlson were married July 20, 2013 at Morning Star Church in Lawrence. Jonathan Hupp officiated. Parents are Ted and Gay Sauer, Lawrence, and Wayne and Nita Kay Carlson, Smolan, KS. The maid of honor was Leah Rutledge. Bridesmaids were Lynne Sauer and Natalie Sauer, sisters of the bride; Hannah Carlson, sister of the groom; and Grace Hildenbrand. The flower girl was Addison Carlson, cousin of the groom. The best man was Brandon Carlson, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Nickolas Carlson and Eric Swenson, cousins of the groom; Caleb Wieneke, and Mitchell Crow. The ring bearer was Ethan Sauer, cousin of the bride. Musicians were Ben and Laura Heller, cousins of the groom. Michelle is a 2009 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 2013 graduate of Kansas State University. She is a math teacher at Salina South High School in Salina, KS. Jason is a 2006 graduate of Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg, KS and a 2011 graduate of Kansas State University. He is a design engineer at Land Pride in Salina. The couple resides in Lindsborg.
