Lane and Khofri
Dennis and Kristine Lane wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Teresa, to Gabriel Khofri, son of the late Sankhiro and Shamiran Khofri. The future bride is a 2000 graduate of Free State High School and a graduate of the University of Kansas in biochemistry. Teresa is a Research Scientist in clinical biochemistry research at Tuoro University in California. The future groom is a graduate of San Rafael High School. A former firefighter for the Tamaulipas fire protection district in northern California, Gabriel is currently a web developer for iCohere in the east bay area of California. The couple plans a fall 2013 wedding in Sonoma, California.
Paulson and Jones
John and Susan Jones, Lawrence, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jeannie Jones, to Army Staff Sergeant Steven Paulson. Jeannie graduated from LHS in 2002, received her BS in Psychology from Barton College, Wilson, NC in 2006, and earned her MFA in Interior Environments from VCU, Richmond, Virginia, in 2010. Steven graduated from Benson High School, Omaha, NE, and enlisted in the Army in 1998. He has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Jeannie is an Interior Designer in the Omaha area and is working in the financial services industry, and Steven is working full-time for the Army National Guard. The wedding will take place in Omaha, Nebraska in October 2013, and the couple will reside in Lincoln, Nebraska.
ramirez and Eck
Dave and Cathy Ramirez, Wichita, announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelie, to Bryan Eck of Wichita. Bryan is the son of John and Kathy Eck, of Attica. Kelie is the granddaughter of Joe and Lucy Ramirez, of Lawrence, and Jan Ripley, Lawrence. Kelie and Bryan are both graduates of Newman University in Wichita. Kelie graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, while Bryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Kelie is a registered nurse at Harper Hospital in Harper, KS. Bryan is employed with Eck Agency in Attica, KS. Their wedding will be held on October 12, 2013 in Wichita.
Moore and Black
Rachel Black and Eric Moore were married on September 30, 2012 at the Circle S. Ranch in Lawrence, Kansas. The wedding was officiated by Rabbi Moti Rieber, and was attended by their closest family and friends. The couple are from Rockville, Maryland and moved to Lawrence in 2009. They are both musicians and perform together regularly. Rachel Black is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and sings professionally. She also runs a search engine marketing business. Eric Moore is the Layout Specialist for the Lawrence Journal World and most recently received his Associates Degree from Johnson County Community College. He will be working towards his Bachelors in Business Administration in the spring.
Charles L. Hodges, Lawrence and Margaret A. Gabriel, Eudora, were married October 27, 1953 in Kansas City, Kansas. They will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with family on October 27, 2013. The couple have one daughter, Marilyn A. Colgan, DVM and her husband Steve Crane, Lawrence. They have two granddaughters, Michelle (Jon) Hall, DVM, Atchison and Melissa (Stephen) Kalb, MD, Lawrence. Harold and Jeanne Longaker, of Lawrence, formerly of Topeka, will celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary on October 7th. They were married Oct. 7, 1954, in Warrensburg, Mo. Harold is retired from the Topeka Police Department. Jeanne is retired from the KU Police Department. She now works for Meals on Wheels. They have five children, Mark of Lake Perry; Debbie and Vicki of Topeka; and Mary and Valita of Lawrence. They have 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. No gifts please.

Ervin and Lucille Yarnell, Eudora, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a dinner with children and grandchildren. Ervin L. Yarnell and Anna Lucille Collins were married Oct. 4, 1953, in Bendavis, MO. They are graduates of Houston High School in Texas County, MO. They moved to Kansas in 1955 and have been Eudora residents since 1960. Ervin retired from Farmland Industries in 1992. Lucille retired from Eudora School Transportation Systems in 2000. They have five children and seven grandchildren. John T. and Mary Ann Easley, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner held on Oct. 12. They were married Oct. 17, 1953 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo. John was a civil engineer professor at the University of Kansas. Mary Ann worked for Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine in Lawrence. The couple have six children, John Patrick and Mary T., Chesterfield, Mo., Dan and Tami Easley, Dave Easley, Tim Easley, Mary Beth and Juan Diaz, and Matt and Carrie Easley, all of Lawrence, Ks.; 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She is the daughter of Akhtyam Khasanovich Akhermov and Venera Minetdinovna Akhmerova of Kirgiz-Miyaki, Bashkortostan, Russia. The 12:30 p.m. double-ring ceremony took place on August 24, 2013 at the Russian Drama Theater in Ufa, Russia. A reception and dance were held after the ceremony, hosted by the bride’s parents, at the AMAKS hotel in Ufa. The groom’s parents and sister and brother-in-law attended the ceremony in Russia. The bride is a graduate of the mathematics faculty of Bashkortostan State University in Ufa, Russia with a degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. She is employed as an engineer-programmer at Iska-Pro in Ufa, Russia. The groom is a graduate of the University of Kansas, with a bachelor’s degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures, and a master’s degree in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies. He is currently in his final year of study at the University of Kansas School of Law.

Mick Mulvany officiating. The bride is the daughter of Bryan and Phyllis Hunter of Lawrence, Kansas. The groom is the son of Alissa Jones; Warrenton, Virginia and Joseph Jones; Cincinnati, Ohio. Maid of Honor was Erica Hunter, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Michelle Rubano, sister of the groom; Brittany Angst, Tina Hawkins, Ally Hynick, Melissa Krumm, Erin Olson, Marie Payne, Rachelle Saathoff. Junior Bridesmaid was Ashley Jones, daughter of the groom. Best man was Adam Griffiths. She is a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High School, earned a Bachelor in Elementary Education from Kansas State University in 2010, and currently teaches at Broken Arrow Elementary School in Lawrence. Paul is a 2000 graduate of Valhalla High School and enlisted in the Army in 2000. He has served 3 tours in Iraq and 2 tours in Afghanistan. Paul currently works for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Topeka, Kansas as a Human Resources Specialist. The couple reside in Lawrence.
Robert and Lydia Evans celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on October 20th, 2013. They met as high school students in Norman, Oklahoma in 1937 when Robert delivered hamburgers from a soda fountain to Lydia’s house. It was love at first sight, and remains forever more. They were married in Riverside Church in New York City on October 20, 1943, along with many other newly commissioned Ensigns on the same day as his graduation from Midshipman School. He was then shipped overseas during WWII. They both graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and started their careers in Dallas after WWII. They settled in Great Bend, Kansas in 1951, and established Evans, Bierly and Hutchison Consulting Engineers while their family grew to 5 children. Their family now includes 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren spread around the world. Bob and Lydia have lived in and loved Lawrence since 1978. They celebrated their special anniversary with family and friends at Circle S Ranch in Lawrence on October 20th, 2013.

The bride graduated from Olivet College in 2008 with a degree in Risk Management & Insurance and currently works as an insurance broker at Swett & Crawford. The newlyweds will reside in Minneapolis after a honeymoon to Europe following their June 7th nuptials.

She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in metalsmithing and jewelry design from the University of Kansas in 2006 and is currently working for a jewelry startup company in Sao Paulo. The groom is a graduate of Milton Academy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Harvard University in 2006 and is a commodity trader in Sao Paulo. The couple resides in Sao Paulo, Brazil
