Higgins

David and Joyce (Daniels) Higgins were married on Jan. 12, 1963 in Oskaloosa. They both attended Lawrence High School and later went on to own their own business for over 30 years before retiring in 2009. David and Joyce have five children: Barbara Higgins-Dover and husband Dan Dover, Debbie Campbell and husband Randy, Cyndi Pierson and husband Steve, Kristin Dunn and husband Terry, and David Higgins II and wife Charlene. They also have 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The couple will celebrate with family and friends from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Grant Township Community Center, 1853 E. 1600 Rd, Lawrence. Anyone wishing to share in the celebration is welcome.

Trout and King

Jodine & Doug Trout, Lawrence, and Rosy King, Paola, are delighted to announce the engagement of Andy Trout and Sarah King of Lawrence. Both are graduates of Paola High School. Andy is a Registered Nurse with DaVita Dialysis and Sarah is an Associate Scientist with SAFC. They plan to be wed in Costa Rica in May, 2013. They will then celebrate with family and friends with a reception in Lawrence.

Gerhart and Barley

Laci Manette Gerhart, daughter of Bruce and Denise Gerhart of Hutchinson, KS and Anthony John Barley, son of David and Winnie Barley of Pinole, CA were married at the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas, NV on January 2nd, 2013. The double-ring ceremony was held on the 108th floor Stratosphere observatory, overlooking the Las Vegas strip. The maid of honor for the ceremony was Renee Tanner, friend of the couple, and the best man was Dominic Barley, brother of the groom. The bride is a graduate of Hutchinson High School and the University of Kansas and is currently completing a PhD at the University of Kansas in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. The groom is a graduate of Salesian High School and Sacramento State University and is currently completing a PhD at the University of Kansas in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

Hunter and Jones

Bryan and Phyllis Hunter are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Nicole Lynn, to Paul Jones. Nicole is a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High School and 2010 graduate of Kansas State University. She currently teaches fourth grade at Ft. Riley Elementary School. Paul, originally from San Diego, is a 2000 graduate of Val Halla High School and currently works at Ft. Riley as a Department of the Army civilian. An August 3, 2013 wedding is planned at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.

Callicott

Kenneth and Mary “Tyke” Callicott, Lawrence, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the home of Nancy and Dennis Copp. Mary Landree and Kenneth P. Callicott were married Jan. 14, 1948 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Memphis, Tenn. The couple moved to Lawrence in January 1948 for Ken to attend the University of Kansas on a GI Bill. Ken worked at FMC chemical plant for 18 years. He later worked at McGrew Real Estate Agency until retiring in 1985. Tyke was a homemaker and worked part-time at Daniels Jewelry and also at McGrew until retiring in 1987. They have three daughters, Nancy Copp and husband Dennis, and Donna Hoffman and husband Scot, all of Lawrence, and Mary “Punkin” Cherico and husband Art, Hemingway, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Freeman

Glen and Vivian Freeman, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 19th, 2012, at the Union Pacific Depot in Lawrence. Glen and Vivian were married on December 21, 1962, in Lawrence, and built their family life here, where they owned Freeman Automotive for many years. Family and friends enjoyed fellowship and a wonderful dinner hosted by their two sons, Dan and Steve and their families. They have four grandchildren and one great grand-son.

Neff

David Neff and Barbara Siefker were married on January 20, 1963 in Greensburg, Indiana. They have lived in rural Douglas County since 1978. After graduating from Purdue University, Dave served three years in the Army. He was a pilot for Trans World Airlines for 34 years before retiring in 2001. Barbara graduated from Indiana University and earned an MBA from the University of Kansas. She operated Neff Accounting and Computer Services until 2001. Dave and Barbara have three children: Suzanne and husband Jerry Sundbye of Westminster, Colorado, Rob and wife Julie Neff of Lawrence, and Stacey and husband Terry Watts of Eudora. They have eleven grandchildren: Jaydon, Kara and Ryley Sundbye; David, Laura, Ryan and Aaron Neff; and George, TJ, Sarah and Luke Watts. The entire family celebrated the anniversary with a Western Caribbean cruise in December.

Robert and Marjorie Hedman, Lawrence, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. The couple were married January 18, 1948, in Midland, South Dakota. They moved to Lawrence in 1968. Bob is retired from the USGS. They lived in South Dakota, North Dakota, Virginia, and California before coming to Kansas. They have two daughters, Jan Morace, Seattle, and Susan Reitz, Salina; nine grandchildren, Christopher Morace, Jeremy Morace, Jonathan Morace, Allyson Morace Cole, Cara Campion Payne, Kevin Campion, Becky Reitz, Sara Reitz Bloomfield, and Blake Reitz Wilson; and seven great-grandchilden, Roan and Ananda Morace, Owen, Watson and Emery Payne, Stella Cole, and Olivia Bloomfield.

Carl (Mike) and Norma Evans, Rural Perry, will mark their 75th wedding anniversary, January 25th, with a card shower. No public celebration is planned. Carl Evans and Norma Green were married January 25, 1938 at Topeka, KS. Norma graduated from Perry Rural High School and Carl graduated from Oskaloosa High School. They have lived in Jefferson County all of their married life. Norma has always been a homemaker and Carl re- tired from farming, Quarry Crusher Operator and Road Grader Operator. The Evans have two daughters, Deloris and Leeta of Perry, four grandchildren, Melody, Rick Angie and Dan, six great grandchildren, Michael, Dustin, Randy, Faith, Rhett and Thomas and one great great grandchild, Jovie. The future bride is a 2004 graduate of Free State High school. She received a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and is pursuing a Masters in Public Health Nursing both from the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is currently employed at Overland Park Regional Medical Center as an RN in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The future groom is a 2005 graduate of Free State. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Education from the University of Kansas and is currently employed at Corpus Christi Catholic School as a technology teacher. The couple plan a June 8, 2013 wedding in Lawrence.

Pilar Iona D’Asto and Morgan Charles Seaman of Lawrence, KS, are happy to announce their marriage engagement. A nuptial mass is planned for May 11, 2013, at Corpus Christi Church with Father Mick Mulvaney officiating. Pilar received her BA from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC, and a MA in Theatre (Drama Therapy) from Kansas State University. She is employed at the Elizabeth Layton Center for Mental Health in Ottawa, Kansas. Morgan received his BA in Psychology from the University of Kansas and plans to pursue a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology at KU. He is employed at the O’Connell Youth Ranch in Lawrence, Kansas. Miss D’Asto is the daughter of Joseph D’Asto of Darien, IL, and Ruth Ann Hall of Lawrence, KS. Mr. Seaman is the son of Rich and Roni Seaman of Carthage, MO.

The future bride is a graduate of Free State High School. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in metalsmithing and jewelry design from the University of Kansas in 2006 and is currently working for a jewelry startup company in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The future groom is a graduate of Milton Academy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Harvard University in 2006 and is a commodity trader in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The couple is planning a June 15, 2013 wedding at the Circle S Ranch in Lawrence.

Megan Heacock and Sam Gleeson are happy to announce their engagement. Heacock is the daughter of Wayne and Lori Tilson of Lawrence, KS, and Brad and Patty Heacock of Lee’s Summit, MO. Gleeson is the son of Mark and Mary-Nell Gleeson of Lawrence, KS. Heacock graduated from the University of Kansas with a major in Journalism in 2010. She was recently accepted into the School of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University. Gleeson graduated from the University of Kansas with a major in Environmental Science in 2009. He was recently accepted into the School of Teacher Education at the University of Northern Colorado. The couple resides in Fort Collins, CO. They plan for a June 2013 wedding at Burcham Park in Lawrence, KS.

The Honorable Paula Martin officiated the ceremony. The bride is a graduate of Lawrence High School and the University of Kansas and is an environmental scientist with the State of Kansas. The groom is a graduate of Goodland High School and is a maintenance technician with ICL Performance Products. Brian and Christy reside in Lawrence.

Sheryl Cherry and Kevin Johnson both of Lawrence united in marriage on December 31, 2012 at Ninth Street Baptist Church. The Reverend Dr. James D Jackson, brother of the groom officiated. The bride is the daughter Doris L Lewis of Raytown MO, and Booker T Cherry (Melody) of San Antonio TX. The groom is the son of the late Reverend Billie J and Ruby Johnson. After a private ceremony of close family and friends, the couple celebrated their union in a lavish Old Hollywood Glam themed New Year’s Eve reception in downtown Lawrence. The couple will reside in Lawrence.

He is currently working on his Master’s degree in Teaching from Pittsburg State University and is working in special education at Shawnee Mission West High School and as a baseball coach at Blue Valley High School. The couple is planning a June 15, 2013 wedding at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City.
