Couples announcements for November 2012




Bill and Colleen Gehrke, Lawrence, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with a summer trip. Bill Gehrke and Colleen Wilson were married Nov. 4th, 1957 at Crystal Lake Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, IA. Bill was in the US Air Force for 10 years at Forbes Field in Topeka. He was the owner of Bill’s Alignment in Lawrence, and retired from there in 1999. Colleen retired from Kansas City Life Insurance Company in KCMO in 1999. They have a daughter, JoAnn Kibbee, Harveyville; a son, Monte Gehrke, Lawrence; 5 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren.


Diffley and Dewey

Jessica Diffley, Lawrence, and Michael Dewey, Denver, were married May 26, 2012, at Space Gallery in Denver, with Bryan Lee officiating. The bride is the daughter of Keith and Diane Diffley, and the granddaughter of Duane and Vera Miller, all of Lawrence. The groom is the son of Jay and Jeanne Dewey, Lakewood, CO. He is also the son of the late Mary Dewey. Maid of honor was Natalie Baumchen. Best men were William Dewey and Zachary Hillman. Bridesmaids were Cari Chapin, Allison Stoppel and Lisa Wright. Groomsmen were Erik Diffley and Clayton Dewey. Ringbearer was Michael Diffley. Flower girl was Patricija Frieberga. Usher was Chris Outcalt. Personal attendants were Kristen Snyder and Lindsay Silsby. Day of coordinator was Louise Volpe. A reception followed at Space Gallery. The bride is a graduate of Free State High School and the University of Kansas. She is employed as the Individual Giving Coordinator at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. The groom is a graduate of Platte Canyon High School and the University of Colorado. He is a third year medical student at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. The couple reside in Chicago.


Benteman and Phillippe

Mrs. Mary Benteman would like to announce the engagement of her daughter Amber Tremain Benteman to Brett Phillippe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Phillippe. Currently Amber and Brett are both students, studying at the University of Kansas. The wedding will be taking place June 15, 2013.


Montgomery and Aligo

Chad and Chris Montgomery, Olathe, and Gerard and Linn Aligo, Tonganoxie, announce the engagement of their children, Amy Montgomery and Tony Aligo, both of Chicago. The future bride is a 2003 graduate of Shawnee Mission West High School and a 2007 graduate of Pittsburg State University. She is the Practice Management, Manager for the Academy of General Dentistry. The future groom is a 2003 graduate of Tonganoxie High School and a 2008 graduate of Pittsburg State University. He is a Finance and Accounting Recruiter with Marco & Associates. The couple plan a May 10, 2013, wedding in Kansas City, MO.


Hull and Tietz

Marilyn and Rob Hull of Lawrence announce the engagement of their daughter, Maggie, to Kevin Tietz, son of Michelle Kelleher and Matt Tietz of Plano, Texas. Maggie is a 2009 graduate of Lawrence Free State High School and will graduate from the University of Kansas in May 2013. She is majoring in journalism and Spanish and is a member of the KU softball team. Kevin is a 2007 graduate of Plano West Senior High School and graduated from the University of Kansas in 2011 with a degree in exercise science. He is a personal trainer at Next Level Rising in the Summit. The couple plans a July 5, 2013 wedding in Lawrence.



Paul & Virginia Findley will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 18, 2012. They were married on this date in 1962 at the First Methodist Church in Lawrence. They have spent their entire married life in Lawrence. Paul worked on the Lawrence Fire Department for 30 years, retiring in 1990 with the rank of major. He also worked for the City of Lawrence Street Department as a mechanic and as a gas meter reader for Kansas Public Service. Virginia worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and spent many years working in banking, including the Lawrence National Bank. They are the proud parents of two sons- Troy and Kyle. They also have one grandson-Zachary. Troy, his wife Jennifer, and son Zachary, reside in Topeka. Kyle lives in Lawrence. Mike and Cheryl Suitt, both of Lawrence, celebrated 30 years of marriage on November 12th. Mike retired from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in December of 2000. Cheryl retired from Clinton Parkway Hy-Vee, after being diagnosed with brain cancer, in April 2011. Together they have 4 children (Michael Suitt Jr.-St. Joseph, MO, Kevin Suitt-29 Palms, CA, Leslie Dlugosh-Spring, TX, Joey Suitt- McLouth, KS) and 10 grandchildren. Their children and family will be hosting a dinner and celebration on November 17th at 5pm at the Worden United Methodist Church. They invite all family and friends to join them and request no gifts.



Dr. Jack R. and Carol L. Shipman, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012. High school sweethearts, Carol and Jack married on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1962 in the chapel of Plymouth Congregational Church by the Rev. Lou Fork. Carol retired from University National Bank and Jack, although retired, continues to work as a substitute teacher for the Lawrence Public School Distritct. The couple have a daughter, Kylee L. Rhoades and husband David L., of Lawrence; a son, Devon and wife Gretchen, of Davo City, Phillipines; three grandsons, Carson D. Rhoades, Jason Castillo Shipman and Darren Shipman, all of Lawrence; and two granddaughters, MacKenzie K. Rhoades, Topeka, and Macey L. Rhoades, Lawrence. The couple requests no gifts.


Colgan and Hall

Dr. Marilyn Colgan along with Don and Gina Hall announce the engagement of their children, Michelle Colgan and Jon Hall, all of Lawrence. The future bride is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Food Science and Industry from Kansas State University in 2009. Michelle is currently a 4th year veterinary student in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University with a May 2013 graduation date. The future groom is a 2003 graduate of Lawrence High School. He attended Johnson County Community College and is currently employed at General Dynamics IT and the Lawrence Journal-World. The couple plan an August 17, 2013 wedding in Baldwin City.
