Bireta and Shipman
Devon Bireta and Jon Parker Shipman, both of Prairie Village, were married July 22, 2011, at the Azul Beach Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The bride is the daughter of Richard and Jane Bireta, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Ronnie and Vickie Shipman, Malden, Mo. Maid of honor was Anne Marie Bireta. Best man was Brandon Shipman. A reception followed at the hotel. The bride is a 2003 graduate of Free State High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history in 2007 and a master’s degree in elementary education in 2008, both from Truman State University. She is a fifth-grade teacher for the Shawnee Mission School District. The groom is a 2003 graduate of Bernie High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in visual communications from Truman State in 2007 and is a graphic designer with Strategic Internet Solutions. The couple reside in Prairie Village.
Fox and Temaat
Melissa Temaat, Dodge City, and Justin Fox, Lawrence, were married Aug. 13, 2011, at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City, with the Rev. Ted Skalsky officiating. The bride is the daughter of Dennis and Joyce Temaat, Dodge City. The groom is the son of Danny and Beth Fox, Lawrence. Maid of honor was Kaley Temaat. Best man was Jared Lytle. Bridesmaids were Josslyn Miller, Katie Lane and Stacey Bibens. Groomsmen were Brandon Gibbs, Chris Cates and Casey Monthey. Ushers were David Temaat, Jonathan Fox, Drew Fox and Blake Fox. A reception was given at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dodge City. The bride is a 2005 graduate of Dodge City High School, a December 2011 graduate of Pittsburg State University, and is a substitute elementary school teacher. The groom is a 2006 graduate of Lawrence High School, a 2010 graduate of Pittsburg State, and is a service advisor at Briggs Dodge. The couple reside in Lawrence.
Cuevas and Chaffin
Kristen Cuevas, Lawrence, and Benjamin Chaffin, Kinsley, were married Sept. 23, 2011, at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. The bride is the daughter of John and Marietta Winfrey, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Lynn and Marilyn Chaffin, Kinsley. The couple reside in Reno, Nev.
Yoder and Beadle
Elizabeth Yoder, Lawrence, and Jonathan Beadle, Overland Park, were married Dec. 3, 2011, at Lawrence Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Bump officiating. The bride is the daughter of Steve and Mary Yoder, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Anne Beadle, Shawnee, and the late Don Beadle. Matrons of honor were Janice Maddux and Lynn Stansberry. Best man was Philip Boyer. Bridesmaid was Jennifer Boyer. Groomsmen were Mark Maddux and Glen Stansberry. Ringbearer was Tyler Maddux. Assistant ringbearer was Samuel Maddux. Flower girl was Grace Maddux. Assistant flower girl was Penelope Stansberry. A reception was given at Stony Point Hall in Baldwin City. The bride is a 1995 graduate of Lawrence High School. She attended Johnson County Community College and transferred to Kansas University where she earned a master’s degree in education. She is a third-grade teacher for the Kansas State School for the Deaf in Olathe. The groom is a 1989 graduate of Shawnee Mission West High School. He attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., and earned a bachelor’s degree in management and human relations from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2002. He is an operations technician for designed services, repair with Centurylink. The couple reside in Overland Park.
James and Earlene Kleopfer, Lawrence, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Dec. 30 with family. James Dale Kleopfer and Earlene Milles were married Jan. 4, 1941, in Jefferson County, Ind. He is a veteran of World War II. The couple lived in Indiana, Florida and Louisiana before moving to Lawrence in 2000. They have three sons, Jim, Lexington, Ind., Gary, Tucson, Ariz., and Robert, Lawrence; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
Hedges and Lowrance
Julie Hedges and Garry Lowrance, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement. The future bride is the daughter of Rich and Ginny Hedges, Lawrence. She is a 1989 graduate of Lawrence High School and is a records specialist and the license plate administrator at the Kansas University Alumni Association. The future groom is the son of the late Duane and Edith Lowrance. He is a 1984 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and is a printing press operator at Allen Press. The couple plan an April 2012 wedding in Las Vegas.

The future groom is the son of Marcia Renken, Cherokee, Iowa. He is a 2002 graduate of Washington High School in Cherokee and earned an associate degree in liberal arts from Tulsa Community College in 2005. He is studying for a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts at KU and is employed at Coca-Cola Refreshments. The couple plan an April 21, 2012, wedding in Kansas City, Mo.
Folsom and Tolbert
Linda K. Folsom and Louis M. Tolbert Sr., both of Lawrence, announce their engagement. The future bride is the daughter of the late Arthur Folsom Jr., and Dorene White.
