Bill and Bonnie Lathrop, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Florida with their daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Gordon Fruetel of Midlothian, Virginia, and Pam Lathrop and Charlie Drees of Manhattan, Kansas. Bill Lathrop and Bonnie Underwood were married at the First United Methodist Church on July 15, 1952, in Norton, Kansas. The Lathrops lived in Hays for 32 years before they moved to Lawrence in 1999. Bill is a retired orthodontist. The couple has two granddaughters, Megan and husband, Joshua Gosseling of Warrenton, Virginia, and Molly and husband, Patrick Fritzel of Lawrence, and four great grandchildren.
Roy and Florine Creek, Lawrence, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 21st. The couple was married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bisbee, Arizona in 1942. They celebrated with a mass at the St. Lawrence Center and a family dinner at the Lake Quivira Country Club with their four children, spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Children include Dennis Creek and Linda Kroll, Berkeley, CA; Pat Creek and Carol, Cleveland, OH; Cindy Maude and Mike, Lawrence, KS; Condy Creek and Connie, Lake Quivira, KS. They have 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Carole and George Pinches, of Ardmore, Oklahoma will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 25th, 2012 with their children and grandchildren on an Alaskan cruise. They met on a blind date while attending Oklahoma State University and were married on August 25th, 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Carole earned her BS in Home Economics from Oklahoma State while George earned both a BS in Business and an MBA from Oklahoma State. Subsequently, George earned his PhD in Finance from Michigan State University in 1968. George taught at Oklahoma State University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City before retiring in 2000. George was a faculty member of the University of Kansas School of Business from 1977 to 1996, first as Professor of Business and then as the Wagnon Professor of Finance. During this time, Carole was a homemaker, a volunteer for a variety of causes, and an archival researcher for the Bert Nash Mental Health Center where she collaborated on a history of the Center that was published in 1992. After George’s retirement, the couple relocated first to Wilson, and later Ardmore, Oklahoma. Their move to southern Oklahoma was inspired by a dream of Carole’s to establish the Wilson Historical Society and Museum in the town of Wilson where her parents had grown up. They continue to devote themselves to preserving the history of Wilson and the surrounding region. Carole and George have a daughter, Susan and her partner Chris Hammett of Kansas City, Missouri; a son, Bill and his wife Katharine, of Mason, Michigan; and four grandsons. In addition to traveling to visit their children and grandchildren, the couple has also traveled in Europe, China, Russia, South America, Singapore, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The future bride is a 2011 graduate of Flint Hills High School and earned a security degree from Job Corps in Manhattan. The future groom is the son of Troy Erwin, Tonganoxie. He is also a 2011 graduate of Flint Hills High and earned a maintenance degree from Job Corps in Manhattan. The couple plan a Sept. 15, 2012 wedding in Lawrence.

The future bride is a 2007 homeschool graduate. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Johnson County Community College in May 2011 and is a registered nurse. The future groom is a 2006 homeschool graduate. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from the University of Kansas in December 2010 and is employed as a civil servant for the State of Kansas. The couple plan a Nov. 24, 2012, wedding at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lawrence.

Fee and Cindy Monshizadeh of Lawrence, Kansas are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, Andrew Monshizadeh, to Tremaine Versteeg, daughter of Dave and Brenda Versteeg of Montezuma, Iowa. Tremaine is a graduate of Pella High School in Pella, IA; received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College in Nothfield, MN; and a Masters degree from the University of Iowa. She has been employed by the Knoxville Community School District in Knoxville, IA for the past two years. Andrew is a graduate of Lawrence High School; received a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas. He is currently employed at Larson Engineering in Chicago, IL. An afternoon wedding is planned for May 25, 2013 at Custer State Park in South Dakota.
