Rogers

Jerry and Jane Rogers, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday. Jane Heywood and Jerry Rogers were married Aug. 2, 1952, at McClintock Chapel at Grace Cathedral in Topeka. Both grew up in Topeka and are graduates of Topeka High School. They met while attending Washburn University. The couple made their residence in Lawrence. Jane earned a bachelor’s degree and was a homemaker. Jerry earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education. He was employed by Lawrence High School as a coach, counselor and teacher for 17 years. He then worked for Kansas University as a financial aid officer and later director of that department for 24 years, retiring in 1991. They have a daughter, Jennifer Rogers, Lenexa; a son, Kyle, and wife Michelle Vignola-Rogers, Lawrence; and three grandchildren.

The bride is the daughter of Leelaratne and Sriyalata Perera, Sri Lanka. The groom is the son of Royce and Cathey Parsons, Lawrence. Matron of honor was Shirani Gonzales. Best man was Dustin Downing, Jr. Bridesmaid was Elizabeth Edmonson. Ringbearer was the bride’s son, Kyle Deshan. Flower girl was Emily Johnson. Pianist was Judy Chadwick. The bride graduated from high school and attended college in Sri Lanka. The groom is a 1995 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 1996 graduate of Salina Vo Tech. Both are employed by KU. Bill and Bonnie Lathrop, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Florida with their daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Gordon Fruetel of Midlothian, Virginia, and Pam Lathrop and Charlie Drees of Manhattan, Kansas. Bill Lathrop and Bonnie Underwood were married at the First United Methodist Church on July 15, 1952, in Norton, Kansas. The Lathrops lived in Hays for 32 years before they moved to Lawrence in 1999. Bill is a retired orthodontist. The couple has two granddaughters, Megan and husband, Joshua Gosseling of Warrenton, Virginia, and Molly and husband, Patrick Fritzel of Lawrence, and four great grandchildren.

Creek

Roy and Florine Creek, Lawrence, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 21st. The couple was married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bisbee, Arizona in 1942. They celebrated with a mass at the St. Lawrence Center and a family dinner at the Lake Quivira Country Club with their four children, spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Children include Dennis Creek and Linda Kroll, Berkeley, CA; Pat Creek and Carol, Cleveland, OH; Cindy Maude and Mike, Lawrence, KS; Condy Creek and Connie, Lake Quivira, KS. They have 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Anniversary

Pinches

Carole and George Pinches, of Ardmore, Oklahoma will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 25th, 2012 with their children and grandchildren on an Alaskan cruise. They met on a blind date while attending Oklahoma State University and were married on August 25th, 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Carole earned her BS in Home Economics from Oklahoma State while George earned both a BS in Business and an MBA from Oklahoma State. Subsequently, George earned his PhD in Finance from Michigan State University in 1968. George taught at Oklahoma State University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City before retiring in 2000. George was a faculty member of the University of Kansas School of Business from 1977 to 1996, first as Professor of Business and then as the Wagnon Professor of Finance. During this time, Carole was a homemaker, a volunteer for a variety of causes, and an archival researcher for the Bert Nash Mental Health Center where she collaborated on a history of the Center that was published in 1992. After George’s retirement, the couple relocated first to Wilson, and later Ardmore, Oklahoma. Their move to southern Oklahoma was inspired by a dream of Carole’s to establish the Wilson Historical Society and Museum in the town of Wilson where her parents had grown up. They continue to devote themselves to preserving the history of Wilson and the surrounding region. Carole and George have a daughter, Susan and her partner Chris Hammett of Kansas City, Missouri; a son, Bill and his wife Katharine, of Mason, Michigan; and four grandsons. In addition to traveling to visit their children and grandchildren, the couple has also traveled in Europe, China, Russia, South America, Singapore, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
