Hackathorn and Cook

John and Susie Hackathorn, Lecompton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Aimee Hackathorn, to Justin Cook, both of Perry. The future bride is a 2001 graduate of Perry Lecompton High School. She is employed at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The future groom is the son of Wayne Cook, Lecompton, and Novale Horton, Perry. He is a 1998 graduate of PLHS and is the owner of Justin’s Flooring. The couple plan an Oct. 8, 2011, wedding at Shawnee Lake in Topeka.


Phillips and Aligo

Sarah Phillips and Scott Aligo, both of Stillwater, Okla., announce their engagement, along with their parents, Michael and Katherine Phillips, Edgerton, and Gerard and Linn Aligo, Tonganoxie. The future bride is a 2001 graduate of Gardner Edgerton High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Emporia State University, a master’s degree in higher education administration from Kansas University and is the director of annual giving at the Oklahoma State University Foundation. The future groom is a 2000 graduate of Tonganoxie High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sports and fitness management from KU, is pursuing a master’s degree in education from OSU, and is currently a defensive quality control coach with the OSU football team. The couple plan a June 29, 2012, wedding at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.


Dillon and Woods

Bill and Beverly Dillon, Independence, Kan., announce the engagement of their daughter Leslie Dillon to Tanner Woods, both of Lawrence. The future bride is a 2004 graduate of Independence High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Kansas University in 2009 and is a greenhouse manager with Cal-Ann Farms. The future groom is the son of Mary Woods, Independence. He is a 2003 graduate of Independence High School. He earned an associate degree in respiratory therapy from Washburn University in 2010 and is a respiratory therapist at Stormont-Vail Health Care. The couple plan a Sept. 24, 2011, wedding in South Park in Lawrence.


Fox Zabusky and Stockton

Erica Fox Zabusky and Mitchell Scott Stockton, both of Lawrence, were married April 2, 2011, on the stage of the Lawrence Arts Center, with Mike Silverman officiating. The bride is the daughter of Norman Zabusky, Rehovot, Israel, and Charlotte Fox Zabusky, Pittsburgh. The groom is the son of Mary Ellen Stockton, Forestville, Calif., and the late Earle Dare Stockton. Flower girl and ringbearer was Madeleine Zabusky-Stockton. Readers were Elizabeth Dailey, Clinton Stockton, Harry Stockton and Stacia Zabusky. Attendants were Charlotte Fox Zabusky and Eleanor Dailey. Greeters were Christie and Zoe Petersen. Guest book attendants were Julie and Ria Hudson. DJ was Catherine Bolton. A reception was given at Pachamama’s Restaurant. The bride earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Harvard University and did post-graduate studies in voice/opera at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She has worked as a professional actress/singer as well as in the classical music industry. The groom earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of California-Santa Barbara. He is a project engineer with Chemetron Railway Products in Kansas City, Mo. The couple reside in Lawrence.



Bob and Shirley Thiry, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. Second St. The couple were married Sept. 10, 1961, at the Methodist church in McLouth. Bob is a graduate of Lawrence High School. He is retired and was the training director for Carpenters Local No. 1445. Shirley is a graduate of McLouth High School. She worked at the registrar’s office at Kansas University and was a homemaker. They have a son, Michael, Lecompton; a daughter, Lori White, Lawrence; and three grandchildren.



Erv and Shirley Hodges, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday with their family at The Oread. The couple were married Sept. 8, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. After retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps with the rank of lieutenant colonel, Erv joined the city of Lawrence staff and was director of utilities. He then became the national sales manager for the Hammel Dahl control valve company, a division of the Grinnell Corp. He also served on the Lawrence City Commission and was mayor of Lawrence in 2000. They have a son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Anne Owen; a daughter, Cindy Fritzel, and son-in-law, Tim, all of Lawrence; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


Horn and Bailey

Lisa V. Horn, Lawrence, and Aaron R. Bailey, Kansas City, Mo., were married March 19, 2011, at Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville, Tenn., with the Rev. John Sims Baker and the groom’s grandfather, the Rev. Robert Bailey, officiating. The bride is the daughter of John and Betty Horn, Hermitage, Tenn. The groom is the son of Steven Bailey, Parkville, Mo., and the late Lois Anderson. Maid of honor was Megan Hustings. Best man was Steven Bailey. Readers were Sarah Bailey and Traci Keeton. Vocalists were Blaine and Leala Dickenson, and Chris Horn. Ushers were Scott Keeton and Adam Harris. A dinner followed the ceremony at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville. A Lawrence reception was given March 26 at the Watkins Community Museum of History. The bride graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth. She earned a bachelor’s degree in art with a communications concentration from Saint Mary College in Leavenworth and is the communications coordinator for the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department. The groom graduated from Park Hill High School in Kansas City, Mo. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a broadcasting minor from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo., and a juris doctorate from Washburn University School of Law. He is an associate attorney at Sloan, Eisenbarth, Glassman, McEntire & Jarboe, LLC, Topeka. The couple reside in Lawrence.


Abicht and Schnose

Elise Schnose, Lawrence, and Travis Abicht, La Crosse, Wis., were married Sept. 17, 2010, at St. John’s Catholic Church, in Lawrence, with the Rev. John Schmeidler officiating. The bride is the daughter of Gregory and Linda Schnose, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Paul and Chris Abicht, La Crosse. Maid of honor was Christina Salazar. Best man was Peter DiPasco. Bridesmaids were Leah Collins, Katy Bougher, Georgia Owen and Annie DiPasco. Groomsmen were Bradley Abicht, Tyler Abicht, Carter Abicht and Brandon Cunningham. Flower girl was Eleanor DiPasco. A reception was given at The Alton Ballroom. The bride is a 2001 graduate of Lawrence High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas in 2005 and worked briefly as a business systems consultant at MAXIMUS in Washington D.C. She earned a medical degree from Kansas University Medical Center in 2010 and is completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago. The groom is a 1997 graduate of Logan High School in LaCrosse. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from KU in 2001, followed by a medical degree from KUMC in 2005. He completed a general surgery residency at KUMC in 2010, and is completing a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The couple reside in Chicago.

Brityn Nieder, Lawrence, and Steven Summers, Raytown, Mo., were married June 11, 2011, at The Chapel at Hermann Hill, in Hermann, Mo., with the Rev. Jonelle Loehnig officiating. The bride is the daughter of Michael and Sheri Nieder, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Darrell Summers and Lana Lombardo, both of Raytown. Maid of honor was Taeler Nieder. Best man was Ty Johnson. Bridesmaids were Ryan McElhaney, Samantha Blaine and Beth Kerfes. Groomsmen were Gerald Brown, Ryan Broome and BJ Latas. Flower girls were Emily Elizabeth, Gabriele Gutierrez and McKenzie Nieder. Ringbearer was Gavin Emilio Latas. Honorary ushers were Jerod Nieder and Cale Nieder. Ushers were Joseph Summers, Chris Blaine and Tucker Brown. Reader was Jacob Summers. A reception was given at the Pavilion at Hermann Hill. The bride is a graduate of Free State High School. She attended Kansas University and is a senior recruiter for Premier Tech, Inc. in Overland Park. The groom is a graduate of Raytown South High School. He attended Missouri Valley College and is a mortgage loan officer for Wells Fargo Bank. The couple reside in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
