Ed and Colleen Quick, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August with their children in San Francisco. Colleen Mathews and H. Edward Quick Jr. were married by their friend and Ottawa University professor, H. William Myers, on Aug. 19, 1961, at Oberlin Federated Church. Myers was assisted during the service by the Rev. Charles Scott. The couple met and graduated from Ottawa University. Ed earned a master’s degree in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis. Colleen worked in the departments of pharmacology and psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine. In 1969, they moved to Washington, D.C., where Ed spent the next 30 years working at the U.S. Senate. Colleen worked for almost 20 years as a medical editor for The Surgeon General of the U.S. Army. She also worked as a volunteer at the National Zoo and at the Smithsonian Institution. In 2005, they retired and moved to Lawrence, where the couple have kept busy with volunteer and university work. They have a son, Steve Quick, and daughter-in-law, Glenda, and fraternal twins Andy Quick and Vanessa Quick. The couple were preceded in death by their 12-year-old son, Teddy, in 1979.

He earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and information systems from KU in 2010 and is a systems engineer for Cerner Corp. in Lee’s Summit, Mo. The couple reside in Olathe.
Dean and Lois Cretsinger, Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception on Nov. 20 in Lawrence. The couple were married Nov. 23, 1961, in Phillipsburg. Dean is a graduate of South Dakota Northern State College and is a retired subcontractor. Lois is a graduate of Kansas University and is a retired teacher. They have two sons, Dan, Lawrence, and Steve, Topeka; and two grandchildren. Ray and Barbara Diedel, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with dinner and dancing with family and friends Oct. 15 in the Holy Family Hall at Corpus Christi Church. They were married Oct. 18, 1961, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scipio. The couple met while in high school in Garnett. They have lived in rural Douglas County for most of their marriage. Ray is retired from Hallmark Cards Inc. in Lawrence. He is still active in the 25-year club and the retired group from the Lawrence plant. Barbara has been a volunteer at Corpus Christi Church. She is in the choir and part of the liturgy committee. Both have been active members of the Catholic community in Lawrence for many years and have been involved with Marriage Encounter, Knights of Columbus and the Empty Nesters Group at Corpus Christi Church. They have three sons, Dan and wife Christina, Lawrence, David and wife Sonia, Olathe, and Drew and wife Jennifer, Lawrence; two daughters, Debbie Antes and husband Bernie, McLouth, and Denise Sanders and husband Larry, Eudora; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bill and Sharon Ray, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday with a family dinner at their home. A reception for friends and family will follow. The event will be hosted by their children and their families. Bill Ray and Sharon Redford were married Nov. 24, 1961, at the Lawrence Assembly of God Church.
