Danielle Price, Baldwin City, and Richard Stephens, Sterling, were married March 18, 2011, at the home of the bride’s father, Mark Shuck, with the Rev. Ira DeSpain officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mark Shuck, Baldwin City, and Janna Shuck, Ottawa. The groom is the son of Mark and Casondra Stephens, Sterling. The flower girl was Cydnee Price, the daughter of the bride. A reception will be given July 31 at Steve’s Place in Lawrence. The bride is a 1999 graduate of Baldwin High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business from Baker University in 2003. The groom is a 1999 graduate of Sterling High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre and film from Kansas University in 2004. The couple reside in Lawrence.
Diedel and Denny
Jennifer Denny and Drew Diedel, both of Lawrence, were married Nov. 6, 2010, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. Mick Mulvany officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mark and Judy Denny, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Raymond and Barbara Diedel, Lawrence. Maid of honor was Kristina Sink. Best man was James Herron. Bridesmaids were Angela Silvers and Courtney Herron. Groomsmen were Daniel Sink and Tim Silvers. Ringbearer was Ty Silvers. Flower girl was Emily Silvers. A reception was given at the Knights of Columbus in Lawrence. The couple reside in Lawrence.

The bride is the daughter of Allen Bewsher, Wichita. The groom is the son of Harold and Diania Miller, Haysville. Maid of honor was Jennifer Bewsher. Best man was Nathan Miller. Bridesmaids were Jessica Dohrman, Laura Naibert and Erin Knight. Groomsmen were Adam Hale, Harold Miller and Pete McMillan. Flower girl was Lexie Miller. A reception was given at Maceli’s. Barkley and Olson
David and Ruth Barkley, Baldwin City, along with David and Janet Olson, Hiawatha, announce the engagement of their children, Sarah Barkley and Jeremy Olson, both of Manhattan. The future bride is a 2005 graduate of Baldwin High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science/biotechnology from Kansas State University in 2009. She has been employed by Cross Country Genetics in Westmoreland since graduation. The future groom is a 2005 graduate of Horton High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture technology management/agronomy from K-State in 2009 and also a master’s degree in agronomy from K-State this May. He is employed as an agronomist by Pederson Seed and Services Inc., Hiawatha. The couple plan a June 11, 2011, wedding at Zion Lutheran Church in Everest.
Plante and Hawkins
Bob and Eileen Plante, Plainville, announce the engagement of their daughter, Heather Plante, to Jeff Hawkins, both of Lawrence. The future bride is a graduate of Plainville High School and Kansas University. She is the executive assistant to the president of the KU Alumni Association and the cheer coach at Perry-Lecompton High School. The future groom is the son of Floyd Jr. and Addye Hawkins, Kansas City, Kan. He is a graduate of Sumner Academy and KU. He is employed with the Perry-Lecompton school district and is the head boys basketball coach at PLHS. The couple plan a May 28, 2011, wedding at Stony Point Hall in Baldwin City.

John and Brenda Ventura announce the engagement of their daughter, Brandi Ventura, to Jeremy Davis, all of Bonner Springs. The future bride is a graduate of Bonner Springs High School. She attended Kansas University and is studying for a bachelor’s degree in nursing at The University of St. Mary. The future groom is the son of Edward and Carmen Davis, Edwardsville. He is also a graduate of Bonner Springs High School. He attended Kansas State University and studied elementary education. The couple plan a July 29, 2011, wedding in Kansas City, Kan.
Adams and Retter
Alicia Nichole Adams and Cassidy Cole Retter, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement. The future bride is the daughter of Don and D’Ann Adams, Neodesha. She attended Neodesha High School and Baker University, and is a registered nurse at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Overland Park. The future groom is the son of Jerry Retter and Carolyn Retter, both of Lawrence. He attended Lawrence High School and is the vice president of Mesler Roofing Siding and Windows in Lawrence. The couple plan a Sept. 17, 2011, wedding at the home of the bride’s parents in Neodesha.
Oest and Oest
Janet and Frederick Oest Jr., Bonner Springs, will celebrate 45 years of marriage today. The event is being hosted by their daughters at the Oest residence. Janet Gale Knotts and Frederick Herman Oest Jr. were married May 21, 1966, in Clifton, N.J. Fred Oest served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1956 to 1960. He is a retired small engine mechanic from Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Lawrence. Janet is a retired certified nurse assistant after seven years of service. She also worked as an X-ray technician and a paraprofessional at a preschool. The couple have five daughters, Donna Oest and Diana Oest, both of Bonner Springs, Dawn Oest-Calderwood, Baldwin City, and Robin Oest-Steinbacher, Edwardsville, and the late Vahlea Oest; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. The couple request no gifts.
