Gilkerson and Tuttle
Herb and Jane Tuttle, Lawrence, along with Don and Verlee Gilkerson, Kearney, Mo., announce the engagement of their children, Michelle Gilkerson, Kearney, and Victor Tuttle, Lawrence. The future bride is a 2003 graduate of Kearney High School. She earned dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry from Emporia State University in 2007 and a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Florida in 2009. The future groom is a 2002 graduate of Lawrence High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies education from Emporia State in 2008. He is a social studies teacher at Healy High School. He is also the track coach, the Scholars Bowl coach and the assistant football coach at the high school. The couple plan a July 16, 2011, wedding at Tuscan Ballroom in Liberty, Mo.
Nichols and Potter
William and Elizabeth Stark, Lawrence, and Kip and Peggy Nichols, Olathe, along with Marla and Tracy Potter, Baldwin City, announce the engagement of their children, Brandi Lee Nichols and Tress Adam Potter, both of Baldwin City. The future bride is a 2006 graduate of Baldwin High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Kansas University and is studying for a master’s degree in public affairs from Park University. She is employed at a local nonprofit agency. The future groom is also a 2006 graduate of Baldwin High. He has been employed as a water distribution operator with the city of Lawrence for four years. The couple plan a July 16, 2011, wedding at the future groom’s grandparent’s home in Edgerton.
Larson and Frederick
Dudley and Sally Larson, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their son, Brett Larson, to Danielle Frederick, both of Hebron, Neb. The future groom is a 1998 graduate of Free State High School. He earned bachelor’s degrees in health and physical education from Kansas University in 2004. He is pursuing a master’s degree in administration from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. He teaches physical education and is the head wrestling coach at Thayer Central High School in Hebron. The future bride is the daughter of Steve and Deb Frederick, Plano, Texas. She is a 2003 graduate of Hayden High School in Topeka. She earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and business from KU in 2008. She is a youth specialist supervisor at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Geneva, Neb. The couple plan a June 11, 2011, wedding at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Thomas and Rosemary Jimboy, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at 5:30 p.m. today at the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 309, 1803 W. Sixth St., Lawrence. Rosemary Mills and Thomas Jimboy were married May 5, 1961, in Lawrence. Thomas served in the U.S. Army with Company L, 28th Infantry, Eighth Division. He graduated from Haskell Institute on May 27, 1960. He was a self-employed brick mason for Jimboy Masonry in Lawrence. Rosemary also graduated from Haskell Institute on May 27, 1960. She retired from Haskell Indian Nations University in 2005, after 40 years of service. They have a daughter, Twylla Jimboy, Lawrence; a son, Todd, and a daughter-in-law, Colleen, Blue Springs, Mo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Gerald and Birtie Tilley, Berryton, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family. The couple were married May 27, 1961, in Fitzhugh, Okla. Gerald was a high school chemistry teacher. He later became the principal at Fairfield High School and was also the principal at Eudora High School and Shawnee Heights Middle School. Birtie was an elementary school teacher in the De Soto, Wellsville and Auburn-Washburn school districts. They have a son, Kyle, and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Tilley, Overland Park; a daughter, Lori Troilo, and son-in-law, Mark, Rose Hill; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Autumn Musick, Eudora, and Joshua Wood, Lecompton, were married April 9, 2011, at Eudora United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steven Carlyle officiating. The bride is the daughter of Robert and Anita Musick, Eudora. The groom is the son of Burke and Susan Wood, Lecompton. Maid of honor was Amanda Tice. Best man was Kyle Hertlein. Bridesmaids were Tiffany Musick and Ashley Jellison. Groomsmen were Nick Clearwater and Chris Wood. Ushers were Dustin Carlyle and Donald Musick. The bride is attending Colorado Technical University and is studying for an associate degree in criminal justice. The groom is employed with Hamm. The couple reside in Linwood.
Virginia and Kenneth Sims, De Soto, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house for family and friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 15 at their home. Mary Jane is a graduate of Ozawkie Rural High School and is employed with the Kansas University School of Business. Russell is a graduate of Highland Park Rural High School in Topeka and retired from E&E Display Group in Lawrence in 2003. They have three sons, Brett and daughter-in-law, Sara, Kansas City, Kan., Rodney and daughter-in-law Julie, and Royall and daughter-in-law Raquan, all of Lawrence; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
