Randel

Carolee and Laurence Randel, Phoenix, formerly of Baldwin City, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today with family at the home of their son, Randy. Carolee Rochester and Laurence Randel were married July 28, 1961, in Baldwin City. Larry and Carolee graduated from Baldwin High School in 1960. Carolee grew up in Wellsville, where she worked at Bailey’s Cafe and Johnson Drug Store. She later worked at Hallmark Cards Inc. and Color Press, both in Lawrence, and Gary’s Auto Parts in Baldwin City. In 1979, she started at Quaker Oats Co. in Lawrence where she worked until 2000. Larry has worked at Clark Rock Quarry, Gary’s Station, both in Baldwin City, General Motors, USI Chemical, which later become Koch Sulfur Products, and GNB in Kansas City, Kan. He retired from Amarr Garage Doors in 2004. In 2005, they moved to Phoenix where they enjoy golfing and spending time with friends. The couple have a son, Randy, and a daughter-in-law, Elaine, Shawnee; a daughter, Debbie, and partner, Susan, Wichita; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He is a 2001 graduate of Lawrence High School and earned a degree in fabrication technologies from Wyoming Technical Institute in 2002. He is a master technician at Lawrence Automotive Diagnostic. Leta Mae and Ivan Percival, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 11 at Prairie Commons Club House, 5121 Congressional Circle. They were married June 10, 1961, in Lawrence. The couple owned Ivan’s 19th St 66 Service at 19th and Massachusetts streets for over 20 years. They also enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with their family. They have three daughters, Jennifer Weible, and son-in-law, Mike, Olathe; Gaye Nicholson, Lawrence, and Jolene Janak, and son-in-law, Michael, Katy, Texas; a son, Steven, and daughter-in-law, Connie Conner, Olathe; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Vernon Christian and Joan Brubaker were married May 25, 1961, at Ives Chapel in Baldwin City. They have two sons, Thomas, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl, and Kevin, and daughter-in-law, Kim, all of Baldwin City; and 10 grandchildren.

Stan and Cheryl Robinson, Baldwin City, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with close friends Vernon and Joan Christian with a joint reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 19 at The Lodge in Baldwin City. Stan Robinson and Cheryl Taylor were married May 28, 1961, at the home of Roy C. and Althea Taylor. Stan worked as a contractor and was part owner of Robinson Construction. He has since then retired. Cheryl has worked for the city of Baldwin for 25 years and is still employed with the city. They have a son, Randy, Wellsville; a daughter, Shelley Ausherman, and son-in-law, Bruce, Baldwin City; and five grandchildren. The couple requests no gifts.

Jardon and Jardon

Norma and Marvin Jardon, Baldwin City, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Friday with friends and family. Norma Brecheisen and Marvin Jardon were married June 17, 1951, at Clearfield United Methodist Church in Eudora. Marvin worked for his parents at Baldwin Junction until 1958, when he then took over the family business. He was appointed postmaster of Baldwin City in June 1968. He worked at the Baldwin Post Office until retiring in January 1991. Marvin is past state commander of the American Legion, past state Chef de Gare 40&8, and past state president League of Postmaster. He also is involved with Rotary, Santa Fe Trail Historical Society and the Baldwin Golf Association. Norma is a homemaker and enjoys cooking, quilting and golfing. They have two granddaughters, Sara Stotts, Boulder, Colo., and Amy Peters, Westerville, Ohio. Their daughter, Kathy Jardon, preceded them in death in 2006. The couple requests no gifts.

Nell and Jerry Sherman, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Nellouise Shanahan and Jerry L. Sherman were married June 10, 1951, in Iola. They met in Iola and were married while Jerry was a student at Kansas University and Nell was a nursing student at KU Medical Center. After marriage, Jerry joined the U.S. Air Force and the couple traveled extensively. After retiring from the Air Force, they made their home in Lawrence in 1972. They have three sons, Tom and Fred, both of Olathe, and Barry, Overland Park; a daughter, Penny, Arlington, Texas; and nine grandchildren. The couple requests no gifts.

Beverly and Darrell Jensen, Lawrence, were given a surprise party for their 50th wedding anniversary on June 12 in Topeka. The couple were married June 18, 1961, in Lawrence. Darrell was in the U.S. Air Force for 3 1/2 years. He worked at OTASCO for 18 years and later retired from Fleetwood Mower and Rental. Beverly worked at Coast to Coast and then Cottin’s for seven years. They have a daughter, Tammy Hobbs, Topeka; two sons, Tony Jensen, Baldwin City, and Roger Jensen, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Cleda and Curtis Dalton, Lawrence, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Wednesday. They were married June 22, 1941, at First Presbyterian Church, Lawrence. The couple met in high school. After serving in World War II, Curtis worked at the Lawrence Paper Company for 39 years. They have two daughters, Diane Williams, Fort Collins, Colo., and Suzanne Lutz, Lawrence.

Jim and Jean Stokes, Lawrence, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Jean Strout and Jim Stokes were married after World War II on June 29, 1946, in Concord, Mass. The couple met while Jim was attending the V-12 Naval School at Tufts College in Boston in 1943. Jim worked for E.I. DuPont in the manufacturing of cellophane in Clinton, Iowa, and Tecumseh, for 35 years. They have a son, James III and daughter-in-law, Jackie, Newnan, Ga.; a daughter, Susan Koelling, Wichita; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
