Randy and Edna Van Schmus, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th anniversary Thursday with a family dinner at the Ten restaurant in the Eldridge Hotel. Randy and Edna were married June 30, 1961, at Monterey Park United Methodist Church in Pasadena, Calif. They have two sons, Brian, and daughter-in-law, Nina, and Derek and daughter-in-law, Pam, all of Lawrence, and a daughter, Jennifer Chartier and son-in-law, Mike, Wauwatosa, Wis. They also have five grandchildren. The couple were also given a card shower from friends and family.

Stanley and Alice Jo DeFries, Lawrence, received a weeklong trip for their 60th wedding anniversary, hosted by their children, to Indianapolis, Brown County and Nashville (Ind.) and Bloomington. The couple were married June 10, 1951, at First Baptist Church in Wellsville. Stanley earned master’s and doctorate degrees from the School of Music at Indiana University. The DeFrieses were faculty members of Ottawa University for 30 years before moving to Brandon Woods. Stanley was the chairman of the music department and Alice Jo taught English as a second language to international students. They have a son, S. Lucky and daughter-in-law, Pam, Topeka, and a daughter, Paula Nauman and son-in-law, Bob, Louisburg.

Glenna and Wendell Graham, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway. The couple were married Aug. 11, 1961, in Sterling. Wendell retired after 35 years in banking. He is now employed as a para-professional in the special education department at Lawrence High School. Glenna was employed at the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department for 23 years. She retired in 2004. They have two daughters, Michele Russell, Overland Park, and Lori Larison and son-in-law, Wayne, Olathe; a son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Sally, Hays; and eight grandchildren.
