Bob and Mildred Goans, Lawrence, will celebrate 65 years of marriage with an open reception Sunday at Central United Methodist Church. Robert T. Goans and Mildred M. Bray were married Jan. 14, 1946, in Sedalia, Mo., a few days after Bob’s discharge from the U.S. Army, where he served in the South Pacific during World War II. The couple have been best friends for 70 years. Four generations of family will host the reception. From Lawrence, son Mike and wife Ann; grandchildren Lisa Goans, and Julie Goans-Heinz and husband Kirk Heinz; and great-grandchildren Michael and Laura Quackenbush and Jessie and Ellie Goans-Heinz. Son Brad is visiting from Tecopa, Calif. and grandson Allen and wife Brooke are visiting from Kirksville, Mo. Four other grandchildren and two great-grandchildren celebrate with them from afar.

Ernest and Rosetta Aldrich, Lawrence, were given a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party Jan. 8 at the Eagles Lodge in Lawrence. Ernest Aldrich married his high school sweetheart Rosetta Shaughnessy on Jan. 14, 1961, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. With the exception of living in Lecompton for a few years, the couple have always resided in or near Lawrence. Ernie spent most of his career working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company before retiring. He now enjoys working part-time for the city of Lawrence at the Eagle Bend Golf Course. Rosie was a homemaker and held intermittent jobs while their children were in school. The couple enjoy traveling, collecting rocks, riding ATVs, working with wood, mentoring their children and grandchildren, and spending time with their immediate and distant family members. The couple have two children, Kim Aldrich Braun and Dave Aldrich; four grandchildren, Sasha Johnson, Ben Van Sickel, Jack Aldrich and Dylan Aldrich; and a great-grandchild.

Osburn

Bill and Judy Osburn, Lecompton, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. Second St., Lawrence. Judy Mathis and Bill Osburn were married Jan. 28, 1961, in Parsons. Both Bill and Judy attended West Junior High School in Parsons. Bill served in the U.S. Army for five years during and after the Korean War. He worked in California, Oregon and Kansas City, Kan., prior to working at the Hercules Plant. He owned a Derby gas station in Lawrence and later retired from Lawrence Paper Company. Judy worked at a sewing factory in Parsons, and also in food service. She later became a seamstress. Recently, the couple have become involved in community service and church activities. They have four sons, Bill, and daughter-in-law Niki; Robert, Charley and John, all of Lawrence; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The couple request no gifts.
