Sandra and Wiechert
Allen and Sandra Wiechert, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 19. They plan to host a reception following the morning service at Trinity Episcopal Church on Sunday. The couple met as seniors at Kansas State University and were married Aug. 19, 1961, in College Hill Methodist Church in Wichita. Allen was as an architect in Wichita, Kansas City, Mo., and Lenexa, before beginning his 27 years of service as the university architect for Kansas University. Sandra taught in Wichita and Lenexa. After they moved to Lawrence in 1969, she was a substitute teacher before beginning 17 years of service as a reference assistant and community relations coordinator for the Lawrence Public Library. Now retired, Allen works as the audience services coordinator for the Lied Center. Sandra serves the Kansas Humanities Council as a book discussion leader. The couple began their celebration year with a winter cruise on the Rhine River. In late July, they hosted their children, their spouses and grandchildren at Snow Mountain Ranch, near Winter Park, Colo. They have two daughters, Kirstin Novak, and son-in-law, Gerry, Overland Park, and Megan Alden, and son-in-law, David, Topeka; a son, Brendan, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Wiechert, Spokane, Wash. The couple have six grandchildren. Their children are giving a tree in their parents’ honor at the Rotary Arboretum. Next spring, they will give them a long weekend at Flint Hill Ranch where they will participate in the annual burning of the Flint Hills.
Robert and Rebecca Foster, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 4. The couple plan to celebrate their anniversary with their family in Hawaii later this fall. They were married Aug. 4, 1961, in Houston. The couple met while attending the University of Texas at Austin. Bob was the band director at Lamar High School in Houston. In 1964, they moved to Florida, where he was the trumpet teacher and the director of the Gator Band for the University of Florida. In 1972, they moved to Lawrence. Bob served as the director of bands at Kansas University through 2003 and remains a faculty member at KU. They have a daughter, Becky Egan, St. Louis, Mo., and two sons, Rob Jr., Olathe, and Randall, Nashville, Tenn. They have six grandchildren. The couple request no gifts.
Jim and Virginia Williams, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family in July at the Big Cedar Lodge near Branson, Mo. The couple were married Aug. 25, 1961, in the First Batist Church in Shawnee, Okla. They have two daughters, Jennifer Tusten, and son-in-law, Jay, Ulysses, and Ellen Chindamo, and son-in-law, Brad, Lawrence; and seven grandchildren. The couple request no gifts.
Wilma and Alvin Reetz, rural Lawrence, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner on Aug. 18 at Old Prairie Town in Topeka. Wilma Jeffries and Alvin Reetz were married Aug. 18, 1946, in Leavenworth. Alvin retired from Farmland Industries in 1987. Wilma worked as secretary and receptionist in various Lawrence businesses. They have three daughters, Cheryl Klug, Charla Tunget, Debby Wedel, and son-in-law, Dennis; a son, Bill, and daughter-in-law, Judi Reetz; all of the Lawrence area; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The couple request no gifts.
Johnson and Ashley
Laura Johnson and Andrew Ashley, both of Lawrence, were married June 18, 2011, at the Victorian Veranda County Inn in Lawrence, with the Rev. Barb Clinger officiating. The bride is the daughter of John Paul and Ann Johnson, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Butch and Karen Ashley, Eudora. Maid of honor was Lucy Conklin. Best man was Daniel Ashley. Bridesmaids were Kimberly Ashley, Katie Engelmann, Katie Ashley, Sarah Kerby and Sarah Preston. Groomsmen were Lane Johnson, Jakob Wozniak, Michael Austin and Brian Preston. Readers were Mikael and Barbara Lindstrom and David Kaleba. A reception followed at the Inn. The bride is a 2006 graduate of Free State High School. She attended Kansas University and is a supervisor at World Market in Lawrence. The groom is also a 2006 graduate of Free State. He attended KU and is a manager at McAlister’s Deli in Lawrence. The couple reside in Lawrence.

Jamie Mae Rovenstine, Lawrence, and Jacob Forest Fink, Buffalo, Wyo., were married May 27, 2011, at Lawrence Wesleyan Church, with the Revs. Bob McHenry and Jamie Prescott officiating. The bride is the daughter of Nate and Janet Rovenstine, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Kent and Angel Fink, Denver. Maids of honor were Chelsea Rovenstine and Kylie Rovenstine. Best man was Zac Fink. Bridesmaids were Charisa Cogan, Cyndi Myers and Jacey Fink. Groomsmen were Jonathan Colliver, Eric Johnston, Wade Sturges and Stephen Luttenberg. The bride is a 2007 graduate of Free State High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in May. The groom is a 2007 graduate of Buffalo (Wyo.) High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Oklahoma Wesleyan in December 2010. The couple reside in Bozeman, Mont.

The groom earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting from the University of Richmond in 2004. The bride is the daughter of Edward and MaryJane Leverich, Shawnee. The groom is the son of Thomas Craig, Ottawa, and Brenda Craig, Lawrence. Flower girl was Abby Hill. The bride is a graduate of Mill Valley High School, Johnson County Community College, Kansas University and Graceland University School of Nursing. She is a registered nurse in neonatal intensive care. The groom is a graduate of Baldwin High School and JCCC. He will earn a doctorate of chiropractic medicine from Cleveland College of Chiropractic Medicine in December 2012. The couple reside in Overland Park.

Steven and Pamela Berger announce the engagement of their son, Tom Berger, to Kara Tompkins, all of Lawrence. The future groom is a graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa.
