Dennis and Kimberlie Pelsma, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their son, Nathan Pelsma, to Lucy Campbell, both of Boston. The future bride is the daughter of Colin and Regina Campbell, Anson, Maine. She is a 1998 graduate of Carrabec High School in North Anson and a 2002 graduate of Wheaton College, Norton, Mass. She earned a master’s degree in business administration from The Carroll School of Management at Boston College in 2008. She is a sales associate for OFI Institutional Asset Management Company in Boston. The future groom is a 1995 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 1999 graduate of Kansas University. He also earned a master’s degree in business administration from The Carroll School of Management at Boston College in 2008. He is a consultant and adjunct professor at Boston College. The couple plan a July 5, 2010, wedding at the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, R.I.

Anniversary

Stevens

Dennis and Ethel Stevens, McLouth, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 14 at the Perry Community Building. Dennis M. Stevens and Ethel M. Hay were married March 11, 1960, at Dennis’ mother house in Lawrence. Dennis graduated from McLouth High School in 1956 and worked at the Lawrence Paper Company from 1956 to 1976. He then was employed at Packer Plastics from 1976 until he retired in 2002. Ethel graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1960. She was a homemaker until her children entered school. She then was employed at Packer Plastics from 1973 until she retired in 2008 with 35 years of perfect attendance. They have a son, Rodney, McLouth; two daughters, Penny Illig, Perry, and Denise Stevens, Lecompton; and three grandchildren. A son, Michael, died in 2007.

David and LuAnn Metsker announce the engagement of their daughter, Marla Metsker, all of Lawrence, to Tyler Phillips, Emporia. The future bride is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School. She plans to complete a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Emporia State University in May. The future groom is the son of Russell Phillips, Goddard, and Linda Cole, Lebanon, Tenn. He is a 2002 graduate of Hartford (Kan.) High School and is currently pursuing an associate degree in information technology from Johnson County Community College. The future groom is the son of Donna and Scott Reynolds, Abilene. He is a 2000 graduate of Abilene High School. He also attended Kansas State and earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Emporia State University in 2009. He is employed with the Emporia School District. The bride is the daughter of William and Patricia Bodach, Joliet. The groom is the son of Rich and Jane Bireta, Lawrence. Maid of honor was Theresa Bodach. Best man was Matt Wilden. Bridesmaids were Maureen Hrdlicka, Iris Caldwell, Melissa Jenco and Amy Simpson. Junior bridesmaid was Emily Hartke. Groomsmen were Chris Johnson, Paul Bireta, Mike Trice and Jeff Serbus. Junior groomsman was Andrew Bireta. Flower girl was Ellie Bodach. Ringbearer was Jacob Bireta. Ushers were Brandon Williams and Ryan Rathje. Guestbook attendants were Rosemary Hardy and Annie Bodach. The bride earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, and a master’s degree in environmental engineering, both from Iowa State University. She is an environmental engineer at Underwriters Laboratories. The groom earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Iowa State and is a software engineer at Stats, LLC. The couple reside in Schaumburg, Ill.

Billy and Elaine Rogers, Wellsville, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at 2 p.m. Sunday at 14516 S. Alden St., Olathe. Billy F. Rogers and Elaine Hickock were married Feb. 26, 1960, in Lawrence. He is a retired electrician for Kansas Power and Light. The couple have two sons, Alan, Hutchinson, and Bruce, Broken Arrow, Okla.; three daughters, Tami Lucas, Edmond, Okla., Anita Rogers, Wellsville, and Angela Wright, Olathe; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
