Richard and Bertha Demby, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 12 with a Winter Wonderland dinner at the Community Building in Lawrence. The couple were married Dec. 21, 1949, in De Kalb, Miss. Richard worked for the City of Lawrence for about 30 years. He retired in 1991. Bertha worked as a nurse’s aide in Lawrence for about 20 years. She retired in 1995. They have eight sons, one daughter, 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Robert and Aleta Hirschberg, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. Robert Hirschberg and Aleta Jones were married Feb. 23, 1950, in Lawrence. Robert retired in 1997 from the Santa Fe Railway after working 35 years. Aleta retired in 1999 after teaching in the Arkansas City school district for 32 years. They moved to Lawrence in 2002.
Harold and Wincel Jehle, Baldwin City, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. Harold Jehle and Wincel D. Butell were married Feb. 23, 1950, at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Willie Warner in Baldwin City. They both graduated from Baldwin High School. Wincel graduated from Baker University in 1950. They have lived in the Worden area all of their marriage. They have two sons, Ronald and wife Kay, Keller, Texas, and Charles and wife Janet, Baldwin City; and three grandchildren.
Jones and Urban
Keith and Debra Jones along with Mike and Sandra Urban announce the engagement of their children, Devan Jones and Brett Urban, all of Lawrence. The future bride is a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High School. She will graduate from nursing school in May. The future groom is also a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High. He will graduate from Kansas University in May. The couple plan a July 9, 2010, wedding in Cancun, Mexico.
Fisher and Dillon
Beth Dillon and Jay Fisher, both of Bonner Springs, announce their engagement. The future bride is the daughter of Chris Peterson and Mary Kobe-Peterson, Kansas City, Kan. She is a 2000 graduate of Eudora High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education in 2004, and a master’s degree in school counseling in 2009, both from Emporia State University. She is a guidance counselor at Turner High School in Kansas City, Kan. The future groom is the son of Brian and Rita Fisher, Eudora. He is a 1998 graduate of Eudora High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting in 2002, and a master’s degree in accounting and information systems in 2004, both from Kansas University. He is an auditor for the U.S. General Services Administration. The couple plan a June 12, 2010, wedding in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Urban and Wattier
Mike and Sandra Urban, Lawrence, along with Dennis and Debra Wattier, Belle Fourche, S.D., announce the engagement of their children, Stacey Urban, Roeland Park, and Clinton Wattier, Lawrence. The future bride is a 2001 graduate of Lawrence High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Kansas University in 2005. She is a registered nurse at KU Medical Center. The future groom is a 1997 graduate of Belle Fourche High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from South Dakota State University. He is also a registered nurse at KUMC. The couple plan an April 16, 2010, wedding at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence.
