Pete and Joanie Whitenight, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family reunion with their children and their spouses and grandchildren in mid-July. Pete Whitenight and Joan Underwood were married April 16, 1960, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence. Pete earned a bachelor’s degree in business in 1959, and a juris doctor in 1969, both from Kansas University. He was a former menswear retailer. He later worked in the financial services business for 20 years and is now retired. Joanie earned a bachelor’s degree in history in 1958, and a bachelor’s degree in education in 1959, both from KU. She is a homemaker and a landscape artist. The couple have three sons, David, Centennial, Colo., Tom, Menlo Park, Calif., and Ted, Denver; two daughters, Nancy Wilkins, Littleton, Colo., and Katherine Senecal, Lawrence; and eight grandchildren.
Earle and Karen Kasson, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in July. Earle Lamar Kasson and Karen Kay Fish were married April 3, 1960, in Lecompton. Earle graduated from Lecompton High School in 1956. He attended Kansas State University and Emporia State Teachers College. He worked for the Brune Brothers, Selichnow Tree Service, and for Farmland Industries from 1968 until he retired in 1999. Karen graduated from Lecompton High in 1959. She also attended Emporia State Teachers College. She was a homemaker, and worked part-time at Rusty’s IGA and sold Avon. The couple have four daughters, Debra Kasson-Jones, Kennesaw, Ga.; Tamara Dye, Alpharetta, Ga.; and Lori Jeter and Dianna Kasson, both of Lawrence; two sons, Stephen and Gerald, both of Lawrence; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A grandson died in 2004. The couple requests no gifts.
Rodriguez and Morrissey
Reyes and Alice Rodriguez, Topeka, along with Richard and Marsha Morrissey, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their children, Christina Rodriguez and Ryan Morrissey, both of Lawrence. The future bride is a graduate of Cair Paravel Latin School, Topeka. She attended Kansas University and is employed by Wayne & Larry’s Inc. The future groom is a graduate of Lawrence High School. He also attended KU and is employed by Nolan Real Estate. The couple plan a private May 2010 wedding in Lawrence.
Jenkins and Paul
Crispian Lynn Paul and Matthew James Jenkins, both of Wichita, announce their engagement. The future bride is the daughter of Jeffry Paul, Wichita, and the late Robin Paul. She attended Mason City (Iowa) High School and graduated with an international baccalaureate diploma from Wichita High School East in 1997. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work in 2001, and a master’s degree in social work in 2003, both from Kansas University. She formerly worked at Spectrum Optical in downtown Lawrence. The future groom is the son of Gregg Jenkins and Cherie Jenkins, both of Wichita. He is also a 1997 graduate of Wichita High School East. The couple plan a Sept. 4, 2010, wedding in Derby.
Morris and Bidinger
Leon and Cristy Bidinger, Perry, along with Raymond and Bobi Morris, Scranton, announce the engagement of their children, Kallie Bidinger and Ricky Morris, both of Lawrence. The future bride is a graduate of Perry-Lecompton High School and Community College of Cosmetology. She is enrolled at the University of Phoenix completing a business degree, and is self-employed at the Hairport, Lawrence. The future groom is a graduate of Santa Fe Trail High School. He has been a journeyman carpenter for Union Local No. 1445 since 2000, and is a foreman for Wolf Construction Inc. in Topeka. The couple plan a private June 12, 2010, wedding in Lawrence.
