Hollis and Bishop
Lindsay Brianne Hollis, Wichita, and Eric Wayne Bishop, Leoti, were married May 9, 2009, in Lawrence, with Tom Jacobs officiating. The bride is the daughter of Brian and Linda Hollis, Wichita. Hamilton and Clark
Phil and Patricia Hamilton, Topeka, announce the engagement of their daughter, Alexis Hamilton, to Emery Clark, both of Overbrook. Duggins and Downing
Audra Dawn Duggins and Heath Alan Downing, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement. The future bride is the daughter of Lenora Brown, Lawrence, and the late Dale Duggins. She is a graduate of Free State High School and is studying for a hospitality degree with an emphasis in event planning. The future groom is the son of Dailen and Sherry Downing, Lawrence. Norman and Doris John, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception, hosted by their daughters and grandchildren, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1 at Southside Church of Christ, 1105 W. 25th St. The couple were married Aug. 16, 1959, in Garden City. Norman worked with Stephens Insurance and retired in 2007. He recently went back to work at DCI. Doris worked as a nurse in various doctors’ offices and at Brandon Woods. The couple have lived in Lawrence for 35 years. They have two daughters, Cheryl Bell and Pam Robertson, both of Lawrence; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The couple requests no gifts.
Robert and Madeleine Schehrer, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today with a dinner party hosted by their daughters. The couple were married July 25, 1959, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence. Robert is the retired senior partner of Schehrer, Bennett, & Lowenthal, CPAs, where he practiced public accounting for 33 years. He currently provides tax planning and financial services for a small group of clients, serves as a Eucharist minister at Corpus Christi Catholic Church and enjoys working on his farms in east central Kansas. Madeleine has enjoyed showing horses and raising, showing and selling canaries. She began selling antiques in downtown Lawrence in 1996, and retired recently. She enjoys gardening, sewing and her annual trip to Disney World with her husband, children and grandchildren. They have three daughters, Amy Byers and husband Tim, Overland Park; Elaine Randel and husband Randy, Shawnee; and Nancy Jones and husband Joe, Lawrence; and eight grandchildren.
Carl and Isabelle Schaake, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 1. The couple were married in Miami, Okla. Carl, a Lawrence native, is a retired farmer and Marine Corps veteran, serving in World War II. Isabelle, originally from Virginia, attended the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia. Since retiring, she has enjoyed volunteering, traveling and playing bridge. They have a daughter, Sarah Leonhard and husband John, near Oskaloosa, and two grandchildren.
