Don and Kathy Gillihan, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family celebration Sunday at the Eldridge Hotel. Don Gillihan and Kathy Solomon were married Sept. 3, 1958, in Howard. Don served as corporal in the United States Army 2nd Division during the Korean War. He worked for 30 years at Dupont/Flexel before retiring in 1990. Kathy was a special education paraprofessional at Cordley and Hillcrest Schools in Lawrence for 15 years. She also retired in 1990. They have two sons, Steve Huffman and wife Patsy, and Mark Gillihan and wife Kathleen, all of Lawrence; and four grandchildren.

Marvel and Don Hastert, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 16 at the Knights of Columbus in Lawrence. Don Hastert and Marvel Teter were married Aug. 17, 1958, in Garnett. Don retired from Lawrence Ready Mix earlier this year. Marvel worked at K-mart for 10 years and spent most of the 50 years raising their children and grandchildren. They have four children: Marty and Brenda Hastert, Lecompton; Mark and Lynette Hastert, Topeka; Carmen Hastert, Kansas City, Mo.; and Chris and Karen Coovert, Lawrence. They have 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Hall

Jerry and Norma Hall celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a poolside backyard barbecue hosted by their daughters. The couple were married Aug. 20, 1958, at First Methodist Church in Lawrence. They met in their junior year at Lawrence High School. In 1964, Jerry and Norma moved to Albuquerque, N.M. Jerry taught at Atrisco Elementary School for two years. He transferred to Madison Junior High School and taught physical education and coached football, track and wrestling for four years. In 1970, he taught physical education and coached football at Eldorado High School for 18 years. He also coached special teams, kickers and snappers for three years under Mike Sheppard at the University of New Mexico. Norma taught language arts at Madison Middle School for 14 years and finished her career teaching English at Eldorado High School. Jerry and Norma are retired and enjoy spending time with their family, traveling in their motor home, boating at Elephant Butte and playing games with their friends. They have two daughters, Jody and Mike Atkinson, and Penny and Mark Krumback, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four grandchildren.
