Harold and Carole Hodges, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family surprise party on Sept. 20 at Montana Mike's in Lawrence. The couple were married Sept. 25, 1958, in Topeka. Harold is a semi-retired John Deere mechanic, and Carole retired in 1990 as a cook for Kansas University. They have three children: Dean Hodges Jr., Lawrence; Cindy Hilt, Lawrence; and DeeDee Bulter, Lee's Summit, Mo. They have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The couple request no gifts.

The bride is a 1999 graduate of Lawrence High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign languages from Emporia State University in 2003. She enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2004. She graduated from Army Officer Candidate School in 2007. She is a first lieutenant with the 2-35th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The groom is a 2002 graduate of Troy High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems from Western Michigan University in 2006. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army through R.O.T.C. He is a first lieutenant with the 2-27th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks. Moore

Thomas "Joe" and Ann Moore celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Eldridge Hotel on Oct. 12. The couple were married Oct. 10, 1948 in Lincoln, Ark. Joe retired from the Williams Company (formerly Cities Service Gas Company) after 30 years of service. He began employment in 1953 at one of the company's natural gas compressor stations in Wichita, followed by moves to Ulysses, Tonganoxie and Oklahoma City. He was a dispatcher at the corporate offices in Oklahoma City before retiring in 1983. Ann was a hairdresser in Tonganoxie and Lawrence for many years, and also worked for the Shutex Corporation in Oklahoma City. Through the years they have been involved in family-oriented activities. They were active and performed leadership roles in the Tonganoxie Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Little League baseball. They were also supporters of the Tonganoxie High School football and basketball teams. They have a son, Michael, and his wife, Elizabeth, who reside in Lawrence, and a grandson, in Arlington, Va. After their retirement, the couple relocated to Lawrence and enjoy dancing, bridge, travel and gardening.

The couple reside in Alexandria, Va., where the groom is stationed at Bolling Air Force Base. In January 2009, they will move to Anchorage, Alaska, for reassignment to Elmendorf Air Force Base.

Monte and Page Alexander will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in Kansas City, Mo., with a family celebration in November. Monte Alexander and Page Henderson were married on Oct. 25, 1958, at Hyde Park Christian Church in Kansas City, Mo. Monte served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. He retired from Hallmark Cards Inc. in Kansas City, Mo., in 1992, after 38 years. Page worked for Western Union Telegraph in Kansas City, Mo., from 1955 to 1960. She is a homemaker. Their children are Steven and Lisa Alexander, Topeka; and Kelly and Steven Babb, Clearwater. They have six grandchildren. The couple have lived in the Baldwin City area for 36 years.
