Bill and Lucille Rice will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with friends and family today with a picnic buffet at the Rice Ranch. Bill Rice and Lucille Parker were married April 25, 1948, at Danforth Chapel. The couple reside in Baldwin City on the Rice Ranch, where they have farmed and raised cattle for 60 years. They have four children: Ron Rice and wife Trudy, Lawrence; Steve Rice and wife Debbie, Smithville, Mo.; Jane Edmonds and husband Robin, Berryton; and Irene Houk and the late Allen Houk, Oskaloosa. They have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Al was born and raised in Lawrence. He is a graduate of Kansas University. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. After marrying, the couple moved to Texas, where he was stationed. They later returned to Lawrence, where they built a home and raised their children. Al owned and operated Haverty Real Estate & Insurance. Nancy was born and raised in Salina. She attended KU. She is devoted to her family and is a homemaker. Coleman

Archie and Marjorie Coleman will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a picnic for family and friends on May 25 at the home of their daughter, Cindy. Archie Coleman and Marjorie Broers were married May 28, 1958, at St. Paul Evangelical Church, Eudora. Archie served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until his retirement in 1978. After retirement, Archie and Margie settled in Eudora where Archie held several occupations including being a police officer with Kansas University and the city of Eudora. Margie was a homemaker, but also had several interests outside the home that included ceramics, doll-making and quilting. She is active in the quilt guild in Eudora. Both Archie and Margie enjoyed playing golf and bowling. They have three children: Kerrie and Mark Brecheisen, Eudora; Cindy and Brian Davidson, Tonganoxie; and Gail and Damon Fry, Eudora. They have eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The couple reside in Eudora. The couple request no gifts.

Rodney "Blane" and Mary Ball will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends with a luncheon and program on May 25 at Kanwaka Township Hall, 776 Highway 40. The couple's sons will host the celebration. Blane Ball and Mary Tate were married on May 25, 1958, in Dearborn, Mo. Blane and his brother, Jesse, owned and operated Blane and Jesse's Beauty Salons for 18 years. He worked as a psychiatric nursing aide at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, in Topeka, for 17 years. He received several performance awards during his career. He retired on Jan. 3, 1997. After his retirement, he worked as a sacker at Dillon's for five years. Mary is a homemaker and was the bookkeeper at Blane and Jesse's Beauty Salons for 18 years. She also worked at Josten's Yearbook, Topeka, for three seasons. She worked at Kansas University's Printing Services, in accounts receivable, for eight years. She is an active member of Lawrence Evangelical Friends Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for 15 years, a recording clerk for 10 years and now serves as presiding clerk. They have two children: Bill Ball, Lawrence, and Steven and Kimmie Ball, Longview, Texas. They have three grandchildren. The couple reside in Lawrence. The couple request no gifts.

Along with farming, Don was employed by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for 37 years, retiring as undersheriff in 1998.
